I am new to the Indian Market here. Just moved from UK to India a couple of months ago.
So I had a look at traderji and other sites and read this book by Kotak Securities about shares etc. So I thought I will give a shot and join the Kotak fellows. I gave my contact number on their website and fair enough someone called Ganesh rings me up. His ability to communicate in both hindi and english gave me some pre-warning doubts about what kind of people I would be dealing with. But still, I said I would meet and let him explain why I should kotak and what are the features there. We set up a meeting at CCD lokhandwala at 4 pm on a particular day.
After a hard night working and sleepless hours, I thought I should go and meet this guy at 4pm and I set from my house at 3 pm so I don't get any traffic in the way. Sometime around 3:15 after I have left the house he calls me up and says "Sir aap pan card ke copy aur address proof ka copy laayiye please". He also mentioned some other documents which I did not have with me. I told him that he should have told me this before. "Anyways, since I have already left let us meet and you can explain to me about what this whole deal is and if I like it on then I will sign up".. He says ok and then keeps the phone. After 5 mins he rings me up again and this time he asks me to postpone the meeting for the next day as I don't have my documents with me. I was so pissed off, I told him that I am not interested anymore and kept the phone.
I really wanted to give Kotak a try but it seems like getting signed up is a huge problem itself and I thought if I can't trust this man why should I deal with these people. So I am still looking for any Indian trading accounts I can use here.
I always consult my broker in the UK before buying any stocks in the UK market and he is always helpful. Seems like I would have to search a bit deeper to find someone equivalent in Mumbai.. sigh..
