I have a demat account with them...
Wonder what will happen to all the shares I hold with them. As always the PUBLIC always has to pay for the others wrongdoings and suffer! I wonder why RBI took so long to figure this out?? |

OBC to run GTB branches from today
Depositors of the bankrupt Global Trust Bank can now breathe a sigh of relief. Late on Friday night, the Reserve Bank of India announced that the government of India had sanctioned the scheme for amalgamating the Secundrabad-based GTB with the Oriental Bank of Commerce with effect from August 14. As a result, the moratorium on withdrawals has been lifted and all branches of GTB will now function as branches of Oriental Bank of Commerce with effect from this date. Customers of GTB, including depositors, will be able to operate their accounts as customers of Oriental Bank of Commerce with effect from August 14, 2004. In a press release, the RBI said that the Oriental Bank of Commerce is making necessary arrangements to ensure that service, as usual, is provided to the customers of the GTB. The RBI also held out a ray of hope for shareholders of GTB. The apex bank said in a statement that in accordance with the scheme of amalgamation if any surplus remains after meeting all the liabilities out of the realisation of assets of GTB, the shareholders of GTB may receive pro-rata payment. The price of GTB shares closed at Rs 2.10, down 1%. |
