Dear seniors,

Getting a feel of "back to college"... how we used to greet seniors... it was compulsion that time, here it is from heart... I just happened to visit this site y'day, got registered... was going thru' till early morning... I am really impressed by the contents and quality of information...

About me, my name is Abhay Deshpande, from Nasik (Maharashtra). I am an infant in stock-trading (just a month old baby)... have undergone a course in TA and strictly follow it (nothing else I know rather)... went thru the usual patterns of first-loss-then-breakeven so far... slowly coming to terms with realities... I hope this forum will help me in having a look at the scenario from a greater height...

Best regards,

AAD

How to put stop-loss orders while trading online ?

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for your reply.

I did TA course from Kiran Jadhav and Mandar Jamsandekar in Pune, from Mometum Financials (actually Precision Technicals which is their other company)... The links are www.momentumfinancials.com and www.precisiontechnicals.com. If anyone is interested, I can pass on contact / mobile numbers of key persons.

Although it was a short course of 2 days (on TA) and 1 day (derivatives), it helped me a lot in building my basics. I think I did the right thing instead of doing guess-work or following the advices from a gist of websites / journals dedicated for this purpose. Now, although it is hardly 1 month, I am able to predict breakouts and general trend. Of course it will take some more time to bring in perfection and more accuracies in my decisions.

My biggest problem is putting stop-loss orders in case things dont go as I guessed. Since I trade from icicidirect.com, I cannot place a stop-loss order till the time shares are actually deposited in my account (T+3). Although BTST (Buy Today Sell Tomorrow) facility is avaiable there, you constantly have a fear if you receive short delivery for your earlier buy (although NSE will compensate for short delivery through auction, you cannot escape your delivery obligation and hence auction penalties). Further, BTST is avaiable only for NSE stocks and that too a few selected and at a % as decided by icicidirect.com. So if I go long on T day and if market goes against me, by the time I am actually able to sell these equities, a substantial amount is lost. Then my speculative venture turns into a long-term investment. Please suggest if there is a better alternative. I have switched to OPTIONS as a better alternative to secondary market mainly due to this reason. Is this right ?

I consider myself as a natural risk-taker. However, since I am looking at this activity as long-term, I am investing small amounts till the time I have confidence in myself. Your suggestions to make this journey pleasant and enjoyable are most welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info anyway I guess the best person to learn from in Pune is Deepak Mohini he is truly good.

Regarding your stop loss problem I understand ICICI is one of my brokers too but generally two days dosen't make much difference unless you're a very short term swing trader I think the term is scalper in which case you could consider an offline broker they can take any sort of stop loss order even a trailing stop loss until cancellation if you so choose......

Thanks Marcus... I tried to search for Deepak Mohini on internet to find their whereabouts but could not find any... can you help me please ?

And as you suggested, I will try to find an offline broker around my place.. problem is, you dont have your portfolio online while trading with them.. right ??
