Short securities holding period

Hi,

With in How many days I can cover (Buy and give to my broker which I shorted) my securities. Is it mandatory that i should buy on the same day or can i buy them later some days?

Please help me out regarding this.

You have to cover the same day or it will get auctioned and you will be penalised 20% atleast + the price differential on the day of the auction.

There is Stock Lending & Borrowing Mechanism (SLBM) where one can remain short beyond Intraday...Check with your Broker for Details.
