The Big Winner
The equity outstrips all other asset classes. What we did was slice this period into 18 segments of one year and into six segments of three years and three-and-a-half segments of five years. In each of these segments, we considered returns from various asset classes. Over the short-term of one year, equities outperformed other assets 11 times out of 18. In the medium-term of three years, equities outperformed four times out of six. In the longer-term of five years, equities beat other assets in three out of three-and-a-half segments. Over short time frames, other investments may score higher at any given point of time. But over long timeframes, equity is the favourite.
