Hi Folks...newbie here...

Hi all...

I am absolutely new to this. While I do own shares, but they were all either gifts (bought in my name as gifts) or a few IPOs that I invested in - but all in all very small amounts.

I am looking to get into online trading in very small way - well within my limited means - not as a way to get rich or anything like that - just to buy and sell and see if I am lucky enough to make a small profit.

I am looking for reputable online agencies to start with. Just read up about Reliance Money, Sharekhan, Kotak and ICICIOnline. The Reliance demo was not working :annoyed: which put me off right away. So what do you folks who do this on a regular basis - but not as a profession - recommend? I am ok with computers, so that should not be a problem - at least I hope not!

I have also read some of the threads here - quite interesting stuff! But a lot to learn. For a newbie like me - what would recommend I do? How should I start? What are the things I need - softwares, websites, things to look for etc etc...

Many thanks in advance for your help and advice.

See you folks around.

BTW, I am only interested in the buying and selling of shares - no futures, no derivatives...nothing too complicated like that - no commodities either. Gosh! I don't even know whether I am using the right terms or not. Anyways, I will appreciate all the help that you folks can offer. Thanks.

Hi
Welcome aboard Kristalsoldier,

Good place to start is http://www.traderji.com/beginners-guide/9373-new-members-please-read.html

It gives a list of useful threads to start.

Which online broker? If you're only starting small, then a cheaper broker would be better otherwise you'll need to make a few percent just to break even. There a a bunch of threads to check out which specifically discuss brokers and their charges.

hope this helps.
By online broker I meant someone like Kotak Online or Reliance Online etc. etc. I want to be able to do this without leaving my desk - best done over the internet...maybe my bank (HDFC) can also be an option. As I said, I am an absolute newbie so please pardon the odd stupid questions that I may ask.

Thanks also for the link - lots of info there too! Will look it up. BTW, are the charges of these online traders that high? What is an average cost? Thanks
