I am new to shares

Reading books will help. You can also download Financial Markets: A Beginners' Module from www.nseindia.com >> NCFM section. However I guess easier option would be meet a broker with whom you are to deal with, say on any saturday when markets are closed, and and learn the basic tricks of trade and take his expert views on how it actually works.
