You can open a Demat account with any bank which is convienent or close to where you live/work!
I have noticed that the private banks do generaly provide faster and better service when compared to the PSU banks.
Also open a demat account with the main branch which actually deals in demat accounts. Most banks have just a few main branches with demat account facility and the other branches have to send in demat transfer requests to the main branch.
