High speed internet (Dish) info needed

#1
I found the DSL / broadband to be too slow and was not able to laod Java based charts and trading platforms. Is there high speed internet via Satellite Dish (not DSL) available in Northwest India (Delhi Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh)? What company or provider has the Satellite Dish for internet? May be there are brokers that provide direct data feed through their own systems? I need this information to set up my commoditeis trading. Thanks for info.

I think the latency via Satellite is extremely high and will lead to lags in your charts. What speed do you currently have on your DSL connection? I think upgrading your DSL to a 1/2 Mbps connection might serve your purpose. Have you considered Wi-max as it is a more cheaper viable option??

The speed i have tired was supposedly 512K, however the pages with java content (continuously upadting charts) never even loaded. The simple charts did load. I have tried the wireless card as well (which is really a wireless dialup connection only). That took several minutes to load up even a simple page without any pictures or charts.

While i was looking at other posts, i did see some people with speeds of 1-3MBPS mentioned. I did not know any provider in India had that kind of speed available except the private industrial networks.

I'm on Airtel BB 1 Mbps Unlimited connection and it costs me 2k. The speed is pretty good and the connection is stable with almost 99% uptime :).
FYI, I asked you to look at Wi-max as an option not wireless :p. Also, if you can really invest money into the connection there are 8 and 16 Mbps options available as well but they have data cap limits so you might end up paying a lot of money if you cross the data cap.

SagarKapoor, Thank you very much for the info. I was not familiar with Wi-Max. So i checked up on it. Here is an article i came across: http://www.watblog.com/2009/04/16/india-south-asias-hope-for-wi-max/

I assume wimax is not widely available in India. Do you know who provides this service in Northwest?

You have mentioned 8-15MBPS speed. Is that through cable or telephone wires (not likely). Again who are the providers. I would think that availability of any speed is going to depend upon the infrastructure laid in the area where i need the connection. I assume 8-15MBPs would be possible only with fiberoptic infrastructure, I am just guessing since i am not a technical person.

As far as the expense I can pay whatever is necessary because I am going to do commities trading as a full time work.

If you don't mind, what city/area are you located in. My plans are tolocate in Haryana or Chandigarh.

Can you please do a test for me on your 1 MBPS system. On Monday when the market is open, around 8-9PM Indian time, try connecting to the following addresses: http://www.prophet.net/manage/watchlist.jsp. You will get a page with quotes for a few (US) stocks with charts for the same on the bottom. If you wish, you can add as many as 100 symbols of US stocks in this list and see if all the charts load up. If you need help with symbols of US stocks please let me know, i can provide that.

Please try the same thing with this address too: http://www.prophet.net/manage/marketmatrix.jsp This will show a list of symbols with quotes continuously updating in a java applet. Entering a lot of stocks in that list will show if the 1MBPS connection can handle the load.

I would appreciate your or anyone else doing this little test on their connection (at whatever speed their connection is) and reporting that in this thread with the mention of your type and speed of the connection. I would really appreciate this.

If you trade US stocks or plan to or are even curious about it, then you can use this site for your purpose too, the best free site i have found.

Thank you very much.
