Context is Kolkata.

A couple of years back, had an occasion to use the Tata Indicom for over 6 months. Was pleasantly surprised to find 256 kbps (30 Kbps) working well for both upload and download. Customer service was satisfactory. There were two cable faults during that period, between the distribution point and office, that took 2-3 days to repair. The second, I presume it was due to a lightning strike during a thunderstorm, resulting in the D-Link switch, two interface cards on the LAN, and a motherboard frying!! So much for overhead cable broadband without surge protection.

A Reliance box that offered 190 kbps was given up in a month as the speed was varying too much day to day and with time of day. This was a few years back. An acquaintance who had a Reliance connection kept getting data usage figures that were larger than expected from a little email and browsing. These are short observation opinions.

BSNL broadband is the mainstay and, ever since they changed to symmetric 256 kbps, very satisfactory. The early days (2005-06) were very problematic but over the last two years there have been no problems with 99.9% uptime; the support issue is moot. Their local pipe seems well provisioned and there is no change in speed during busy hours.

Have not used Airtel or the others.

I am using BSNL broadband from jun 2006. Few times, it went off previously. Nowadays say for more than six months never had disconnection. I have speed of 256 kbps(around 30 KBps).

I have used or used them all except Tata indicom,

Airtel is the best, Iam using it from past 7 years, currently under 8 mbps/ 4GB plan,
Bsnl is value for money but not dependable for critical applications, using it from 8 years, currently using BSNL EVDO.
Reliancecomm is the worst,

Raju.

I want to know one thing about BSNL. I was told that when you are
using Internet ,you cannot use phone. That means you can not use
both things simultaneously ,please let me know.I want to go for BSNL
connection in future.

If you use BSNL broadband i.e. dataone you can use phone and internet simultaneously; but the internet speed slows down quite a bit during the phone call.

I have had no problem using both at the same time with dataone and the 2 Mbps speed (i.e., Home Plan 250; 1 GB limit).

1 hour of trading eats about 4-5 MB.

Broadband & Voice calls are separate entities not interlinked, despite being carried in the same Cable. Voice Call can have disturbances if Splitter is not properly placed. I remember, during Bombay Floods last year, Voice Calls were inactive in Flooded Areas. Whereas Broadband was working.:D

hi
1) u can use both net and phone at the same time
2) In case u have parallel line.Phone connections after splitter work ok but phone connections before that have lots of disturbance and u cannot hear a thing so long as the modem is on(even if not connected to net).By the way splitter is provided alongwith modem by BSNL and you dont have to buy it separately.

I have use YOU,TATA indicom and BSNL.TATA Indicom is the best for me
