internet connection-reliance forced to upgrade to 4g

#21
Contra, so basically one takes the 4g sim and inserts in the Huawei data card ?? Does it need any activation ? Does it need any installation ??

Never used anything apart from broadband and the dongle. Never used wi-fi or wi-fi router etc. So am kind of a layman.

is this the right Huawei product ?

I have migrated from CDMA to 4G (Reliance) because CDMA is shutting down -- or has already shut down -- in a few circles including Mumbai.

The new 4G sim was supposed to be sent by courier but that didn't happen. So I went to the gallery and got one. It says 4G on the sim but I tested with an app called Network Cell Info Lite, and it shows 3G. Still, I'm getting speeds between 250-400 Kbps.

My Reliance dongle too has to be changed (it's been blinking red since the beginning of June with intermittent access late in the day). Best to get a 4G sim and get an unlocked dongle like Huawei from Amazon.

4G WiPod is going to be available and active only by Jun 30.

Actually that's where rcom beats all the others. I have 40GB @Rs. 999 (Rs. 1138 including all the taxes). For me too, about 90% of the usage is for trading where I use 3 softwares - NOW, ztrader and trade tiger.

Spoke with rcom fellow in chat. He too said that I have to collect the 4g card from Surat and then apply online for a 4g pod. Will do that when visiting Surat later this month.
hi
which plan is this? I am using reliance also..but there also I am giving 850 rs for 5 gb plan..which one is your plan? is it prepaid or postpaid? or is it unlimited?
I meant if i exhaust 5 gb..my connection will not stop..but my speed will be slow..but Bill will not come more than 850 in a month..

It is postpaid. Initially I had taken Rs. 750 / 10GB plan, but found that I was using more than 0.5GB per trading session !! So I asked them for a higher plan. This is what they gave me.

I think that the postpaid plans give you better deals. Anyway, this 40GB plan is not there in any of their menus or advertisements.

Yes, that's the one I'm planning to order as well. Huawei seems better than D-Link. It's simple plug-and-play; insert the sim as usual; plug into the computer and drivers are auto loaded. I'm a layman in these matters too :)

Anyway, just doing some more research whether to stick with Reliance or try out Airtel.

The reason for choosing an open dongle over the one from Reliance is that this one is unlocked. So if you have data plans from other providers (like Idea, Airtel, Vodafone) then you can slip in those cards and your internet will work as usual. Plus, it's cheap and Reliance itself uses ZTE for its dongle which is comparable to Huawei.

Furthermore, even Reliance 4G in the current form is basically HSPA or 3G. Full-fledged 4G operations have to commence from the side of Rel Jio. For that to happen, the existing lot of CDMA users who haven't yet migrated, have to be done so... And all the migrations happening right now are actually into GSM rather than 4G.

Once the GSM base picks up, I reckon they'll go for "real 4G". I somehow feel that all this is to simply have enough users in the GSM spectrum so that Jio/Rcom can test out 4G before a proper launch.

Secondly, I want to highlight one thing.

For those with an existing Reliance connection who are upgrading to 4G, make sure that the new sim you get has the Pkg date as May 2016 (05/2016) and not April 2016 (04/2016)

Some of the earlier sim cards issued from the April batch didn't have data enabled and we were required to take them back to the gallery to get the sim "patched" (i.e., your card would be inserted into a reader and only then would data services work).

There is no such problem with the sim cards from the May batch. Data works out of the box with them. So make sure you get the latest possible 4G sim.

Also, once you upgrade to 4G, you're supposed to get 10GB free data usage with a validity of 30 days.

Am in Surat today. Went to Reliance store and got a new 4G dongle in replacement of the old 3g dongle. It is basically a wifi hotspot.

It doesn't go through the ZTE software so can't see the upload download speed. But speedtest.net shows the following :

Usually everything works better in Surat. So the real test will come when in Delhi.

But thank God there is no ladfa of a sim and data pod etc. at present.

Has the WiPod started working ?
