Health Insurance for parents

I want to take health insurance for my parents. Please advise me regarding some good health insurance plans. Also how well do they cover existing health conditions - my mother has a kidney disease and may also need a knee replacement in few years.

Thanks for your advise and helpful pointers!

I read about this scheme last year and spoke to my agent who I know for past many years. He said, that NIC strongly discourages agents to sell this policy. Not to be outdone, I personally tried going to their main office in the city. Forget getting insurance for my parents, they did not even have a form for this. The first 3 guys I spoke to, did not even know such a scheme existed.

Dear All,

I am also planning to take a mediclaim insurance policy for my parents; ( Father 65, Mother 58)..However most of the policies have entry age as 60 yrs for Senior citizens; whereas my mother is still 58. Could anybody suggest for a policy wherein I can insure medicliam for both of them together?

Noticed many valuable tips as to which mediclaim policy to select; however nobody specifically mentioned ab any policy? VARISTHA Mediclaim seemed to be good ; but then as abdriver2000 says it's not backed itself by the insurer; which makes it tricky to chose.!

Wud be glad to hear some more suggestions!

Thanks!

I took individual mediclaim policy for me, wife, parents from National Insurance. I hope there is no problem going ahead with VARISTHA Mediclaim. You just make an enquiry at your nearest NIC service centre and post the feedback you got in this forum.

This is the marvellous gift your parents something special and unique - gift them the assurance of good health and your support, even though you are miles away. Health Insurance takes care of unforeseen medical emergencies faced even if you are unable to be around.
