Which one is better laptop ?

My computer repair-man told me that both DELL & HP are bad.
Suggested TOSHIBA brand instead.
I had a horrible laptop from toshiba, 5-6 years back though things can change.

Next i got HP dv6z which is decent. Both laptops started overheating after 1 year. They overheat only if you stress processor/gpu. Had to replace cpu paste. Light usage should be fine and maybe intel wont overheat (mine were amd)

If you dont need mobility, assembled desktops are cheaper / faster, heat up less, most components have more than 1 year warranty, and individual components can easily be replaced / upgraded.

Both of your laptops have discrete GPUs. Do you need them? My laptop dgpu (amd 6750) heats up so much after 1 year that i cant use it anymore. If you dont play games go for laptop without it, will be cheaper. A 50 k gaming laptop with 1366*768 screen is a bit of a cruel joke on us really...

Why do you need i5? Unless you have a good usecase, its likely you wont notice much difference between i3 and i5. For most normal users, the bottleneck is in harddisk access and you will likely notice speedup with SSD over i3 vs i5 ( unless you are going to tax those 4 cores )

If its between those two, and purely by specs without considering brand quality, HP model has more ram ( 8 vs 4 gb ), more hardisk space ( 1 tb vs 500gb ) and a better gpu than Dell model

Still if you dont need i5 and dgpu, a cheaper model (20-25k on sale) will easily suffice and you can invest in a SSD instead.

DELL inspiron 15/5547 has same config. i.e 8 gb / 1TB , but I am more concerned about heating issue because I suffered lot with my current LENOVO lap.:(

What do you mean by "Stress the processor" ?? Someone using it for trading will need to use it for 8-10 hours a day, using charts (even if not using for gaming or other heavy graphic applications). Is this stressful use ?

I have DELL and HP.Both I got as gifts from close relatives.

DELL (Inspiron , 8 yr old, too slow ,may be too much of data and config.is poor)
HP (Pavllion,3 yr old ,configuration is Medium)

I am facing Heating Problem with HP ,I am using a COOLING PAD for that.

Playing games, video conversion etc. ie anything that will continously run cpu/gpu at 100%. Our trading stuff does not do that unless you are continousuly using some funky afl. Just look at task manager.

Cpus/gpus have multiple 'levels' of operation with different clocks and voltage applied to it.

If we have sustained high usage, it will run on max clocks ( ie the rated clocks ) and max voltage causing heat buildup. A good laptop should be able to dissipate the heat but in my experience they started degrading after a year. I did not buy a 'premium' model, maybe they have better stuff. but i am done with laptops now, will only get bare minimum cheap stuff if needed and use a desktop for serious stuff.

Anyway, intel processors are nice, especially their ULV stuff should not give too much heat anyway so they should run ok.

you did not say whether you need a discrete gpu ( for games ) and why you need i5. A more expensive model does not necessarily mean a cooler laptop. Just intel i3 ULV CPU should be enough for general usage and will heat much less as its underclocked for battery life.

Likely Makes noise as fans runs faster to remove heat buildup. Dust buildup, degrading cpu paste caused this for me.

Better get assembled desktop from a good shop. In mumbai, primabgb gave me good prices and also assembled the desktop for extra 300. They did good job with assembling and hopefully will give good support if needed.

You need to decide on components based on your needs. I can try to suggest some parts if you tell what you need and then you can tinker with it. But best you undestand what you are getting.

You can check this thread here and some links to sites for research are here

I got me pc for gaming in future for ~41k. Components i got are
i5 4400 cpu
GB GA-B85-D3H motherboard
GSkill RipjawsX 1666 ram
Antec True power classic 550 powersupply
Cooler Master Force 500 case
Dell IPS S2240L monitor

You may not need this much which can make it cheaper. i3 or even pentium may be enough. Note that a desktop i5 will be much faster than a laptop i5 as laptops are underclocked.

You can get cheaper motherboard especially if you dont need usb3, my powersupply is a little too much espsecially if you dont want gpu - a cheaper seasonic eco 400 should be good enough and a cheaper case if you dont need gpu.

Prices you can check in flipkart/primeabgb. i got a little cheaper than what primabgb says on it site.

Edit - we got this laptop on sale recently at 22.5k. ( 25k + 10% off suing CC)
Is a decent model that should be good enough for most usage. You can look for similar specs with HP/Dell/... if you dont need dGPU, i5.
Laptops can also have iffy linux support. My hp is fine but this one has a bluetooth chip that has no driver on linux because the stupi company wont make one due to patents ... If you want to buy with windows add a few k
