My Desktop computer is getting restarted again & again

#11
Hello,

for computer restarting problem....there may be... one of....these three things may go wrong....

1).Ram (if u have two Ram's try put one at a time and look for trobleshooting may be one ur ram is gone faulty...if u have only one Ram installed ask ur friend for crosschecking the same)

2).ur HDD (hard disk MBR or particular sector of ur HDD may go wrong )

the best way to check ur harddisk is to load OS.if OS is loading/installing means there is no problem with ur HDD.

3).SMPS ,may be some capacitors in ur Smps may go brust and when u apply load it may restart ur Machine.

what iam suspecting is ur having a Blue screen error and then restarting,so u need to look for 1) and 3).

Regards
1) I ran a test for checking errors in RAM using memtest software. And its showing that RAM is working fine and its errorfree

2)I have already tried to install windows 7 ,after the occurance of this problem. And it got installed successfully. Therefore as per your suggestion, possibility of HDD failure is ruled out

3) Now only thing left is SMPS. But i don't even know what SMPS is
Please tell me what it is & how to troubleshoot it??

Is this happening after OS change I mean from windows xp to win 7.
Open Task manager.
Go to processes tab.
Sort all processes by cpu usage.
Look at any processes using abnormal(100%) cpu .

I previously had this type of problem in windows 7 when changing
the normal size DPI display setting to 125% or higher.
That was basically a graphics performance problem.
After using other copy of OS(win 7) there is no problem.
If you have problem only after changing to Win 7 it should be the
error in win 7 copy.
So use a different copy instead of reinstalling the same again and again.

Veera.
I tried checking the processes but i didn't see any abnormal process. The previous copy and current copy of my windows 7 is different .

smps is power supply unit that convert ac to desired dc voltages for ur motherboard, hdd etc.
its a separate unit(mainly a rectangular box) mainly screwed in the upper back side of ur cpu box(where power jack pushed from ups). install a better smps.
any way do u have gigabyte mother board? if smps is faulty, may be due to some capaciter faulty inside smps box. but i am not hardware tech

So guys , i m currently running my computer in safe mode with networking and it has not restarted from last 20-30 minutes  while in usual mode it restarts every 10 minutes :thumb: So ,shouldn't i rule out the possibility of any hardware failure since its running peacefully in safe mode???

1. Check ramsticks physically at some other computer, and one at a time. Perhaps individually they are fine but when installed together developing conflict. Any software test won't be able to detect this

2. Check SMPS, the power inlet box. It basically acts as a stepdown transformer. You need to check the output voltage with meter. Then you may need to tally that with your motherboard specification.

Try these, hope your problem will be solved.

Do i still require to try these hardware related solutions since its running fine in safe mode??

How Reckless am i .:fatigue: Everytime i reinstalled windows 7 in last 2 years,i never took care about installing the drivers too
I didn't expect this kind of a mistake from someone like me who is currently pursuing a professional course in computer science:eek:
I never installed that Freakin' Grafix driver whenEver i installed a new OS thinking Desktop computers are so cool that they manage these petty things by theirselves.
Quite Disappointed from myself :gun2:
