451 Error to Tell You if a Webpage Is Unavailable Due to Censorship

by Manish Singh , 21 December 2015

When you request a webpage that doesn't exist, the website throws a 404 error, making you aware about the unavailability of the resource. But it doesn't reveal the exact reason why a webpage isn't available. Thanks to a global Internet regulatory body, we now have a better solution. The newly published 451 HTTP status code will warn you when a page isn't available because of censorship or any other legal obstacles.

Last week, IESG (Internet Engineering Steering Group) approved the publication of "an HTTP status code to report legal obstacles." It will soon be made available for RFC (Request for Comments), but in the meanwhile, Web publishers and administrators can start to implement it on their websites.

Several anti-censorship advocates have demanded 451 error or similar HTTP status code for a long time. In 2013, Web openness advocates proposed the introduction of HTTP 451 to specify when pages weren't available because of legal reasons such as a webpage censored by the government, or if the page was deemed dangerous to national security, copyright, or privacy.

The moniker 451 is a reference to 1953's dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451. In the novel, the writer envisioned a place where books were forbidden. On December 18, the status code was approved by the IESG.

"This status code indicates that the server is denying access to the resource as a consequence of a legal demand. The server in question might not be an origin server," the description of the status code reads.

"This type of legal demand typically most directly affects the operations of ISPs and search engines.Responses using this status code SHOULD include an explanation, in the response body, of the details of the legal demand: the party making it, the applicable legislation or regulation, and what classes of person and resource it applies to."

It will be interesting to see how the 451 error HTTP status code is implemented worldwide. We've previously seen cases where a website wasn't legally allowed to disclose why it removed a webpage.

The 5'$ computer.....

Source : http://www.businessinsider.in/Raspb...d-cheap-new-computer/articleshow/49935495.cms (Edited excerpt)

Heard of Raspberry Pi Zero? It cost only $5!!! And in UK, it is being given along issue of its magazine, MagPi! Have tried to check out availability of the same on Amazon dot in, but prices of the same are 10 times higher!!!

More than a computer, Raspberry Pi Zero is a perfect gift for a geek or a child interested in technology. Among the varied uses are : Connecting to the net via a dongle, building a inexpensive robot, creating games that can be played on a TV, making a media server, or build own mobile etc as per Pi enthusiast.

Productive apps.....

There are thousands of apps available for download. Some like Candy Crush, Farmville etc get popular. I usually am not much into app based games, however, there is one that I would recommend to anyone. Possibly you may have heard of Lumosity. It is a Lumosity - a free app (paid premium model available) loaded with games to test memory, speed, cognition, flexibility, problem solving etc. 3 free games that work out different mental processes are made available each day. Am using it daily and recommend the same to anyone looking for an interesting way to work out the brain and keep it agile...

Review from Tom's guide :

http://www.tomsguide.com/us/pictures-story/705-best-brain-training-apps.html

Lumosity (Android, iOS) combines proven cognitive science techniques from the Human Cognition Project with a gamified approach to provide users with brain-training mini-games that are fun and effective at exercising your mental muscles. Users create a Lumosity account and then select particular mental faculties they want to exercise. Lumosity then creates customized daily exercise routines with mini-games built around those particular skills. The app tracks your scores, with difficulty adjusting to your performance, ensuring that you're always challenged. Free users can access a set of daily exercises, while subscribers gain access to a wider variety of exercises and more features.

Game sample.... There are about 10-12 interesting games of which 3 are made available each day on the free model......

Analysts think that Samsung will launch a smartphone with a foldable screen this year - Rob Price (edited excerpt)

http://www.businessinsider.com/sams...e-2016-hsbc-analysts-prediction-unique-2016-1

(Thinking of buying a smartphone? Hold on, something exciting could be near......)

Samsung might be preparing to launch a smartphone that is radically different from anything else on the market. Analysts at HSBC are predicting that the South Korean electronics manufacturer is going to launch a smartphone with a foldable screen in the second half of 2016.

Samsung has been looking into foldable-screen technology for years, and there are rumours that it is developing a smartphone under the codename Project Valley. (Samsung has never acknowledged this.) The fold would let users have a far bigger screen — useful for apps and consuming media — without drastically increasing the size of the device. But few expect it to make its way to market any time soon.

However, a new report on foldable screen technology from the bank HSBC argues that the tech "will be here sooner than we think." HSBC analysts argue that Samsung is likely to be one of the first to utilise the technology commercially, and we should expect to see a launch this year. (This won't be in its flagship Galaxy S line, by the way: That's due to launch in Q1 and rumours make no mention of a folding screen.)

Here's the analysts' rationale — emphasis ours : We think Samsung will likely introduce foldable OLED smartphones as early as 2H16, versus market expectations of 2017, as the company tries harder to regain market share. In our view, foldable OLED smartphones could transform Samsung’s smartphone business, with the potential to become a ‘killer’ feature in the premium smartphone space given that (1) a foldable OLED model would provide it with a high degree of product differentiation; (2) it gives users the best of both world’s – namely, a larger screen size in a smaller form factor; and (3) it could enable the company to capture market share in both the smartphone and tablet markets with a single product. The coming roll-out of foldable OLED smartphones also bodes well for growth across the entire OLED panel supply chain: from the panel makers to equipment makers to materials suppliers.

In short: Samsung is struggling to regain market share, and a foldable screen would give it a truly unique selling point, setting it apart from every other product on the market. And, as an added bonus, the larger screen sizes the fold would create would let Samsung gobble up part of the tablet market too.

It's worth pointing out that HSBC doesn't seem to have an inside source here — or at least, not one it's acknowledging. It's just making a prediction. But strategically, it does make sense. Samsung smartphones have succeeded best when they're unique — when they offer the consumer something that no-one else can.

This seems fine. I had this problem too - make sure the time update is not blocked by firewall. NOW time is correct.

Re: TT - Tech Talk (Computers, Laptops, Tablets, Mobiles, Devices, Systems & Software

my pc clock is 1 second ahead approx with this clock , the what could be issue??

how did you get your resolved ?
Control panel -> set date and time -> Internet Time tab -> Change Settings button -> Check synchronize and also click Update Now button for manual sync.

You can also do from command line. I think below should work, it used to work for me, but is not working now - maybe some problem with windows time server as even the manual update is failing. So if it doesnt work, maybe retry later.

Code:
w32tm /resync
Edit - Try using this application, seems nice interface.

Branded Android Smart Phone : Rs. 25,000 range

Looking to buy a branded Android Smart phone below Rs. 25,000. Having done some cursory research, I have chosen to eliminate the newer Chinese made brands from my list. This narrow's down my choices to :

LG Google Nexus 5X (16 GB) : Rs. 21,990
Lenovo Vibe Shot : Rs. 24,240
Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe ZE551ML : Rs. 22,999
HTC One M8 Eye : Rs. 24,499
Samsung Galaxy S5 : Rs. 21,999

Any tips or advise appreciated.

Thanks.......

NB : Am not a gamer, so not interested in high end graphics. Mostly will be using the mobile to track markets, Whatsapp and a bit of browsing (work related)
