Well my family had lot of its capital invested in bank FDs..around 5 L to be precise...

I m not happy with the present % scenario as i see companies like JP associates and unitech offering FDS which even if u fall under 20% tax bracket give more than 9% return

So thinking to invest

But whenever i have mentioned all says its very high risky and better to avoid and consider nationalized bank(saying its safe)(but even a nationalized bank except 1 lakh now i guess its 2 lakh or some more total amount is insured practically)

I believe without taking risk u dont get higher return..

So i just wanted to know list of companies which have gone bad in paying principal amount related to FDS...

My mother have already made 40k investment in tata motors Fds and so far her 9 months interest have been credited on time...

The thing is that one we look at Fds we search for the highest returns. But one has to maintain a balance between the returns and the risk. Unsecured FDs have the highest risk of default so it is best avoided unless the company track record invokes trust.Risk of default is measured among other things by the credit rating and by the track record of on time payments. Alternatively well respected companies like Tata cannot be compared to the companies you mentioned.
