Reg. ING Quant fund

#1
Folks,
I am considering investing in this. Pls advise pros and cons. The minimum investment required is 10 lakhs. They have done exceedingly well in last 6 months and my "advisor" was pushing this product. Thanks in advance.

What is the track record of this fund ?
What is the track record of ING fundhouse to give good return ? How many of their funds are among top 5 in their categories ?

As a fund house, they have promised to delivery the return.. and if they have not done it so far then how can I trust this fund. If they say that it is Quant fund and will make money then they are indirectly saying that our other approches have failed and hence we are trying new instument..

Personally, I will question their track record, not the output of backtesting.
And they are not asking for small money ? If they make you feel like HNI or ultra HNI, then you got to drill them like real ultra HNI would. You got to take financial decision like ultra HNI would... not like a novice trader who is trying out trading with 10k of account.

btw- I googled on ING QUANT FUND and only results that I got were related to news item. I couldn't get their prospectus before posting some facts here. If you know their prospectus then plz post the link there.
I don't know your relationship with your advisor and hope he is not trying to do smart selling of a product where he get fat commision.

All the best.

Hi AW10,
Thanks for the detailed views. Some clarifications:

- It is a PMS (Portfolio Management Service) type of offering although it is called a quant fund. So, they do not have prospectus etc like traditional funds
- It is an actively managed fund and hence the fees are higher
- The returns are excellent in last 6 months where the market is struck in a range and traditional funds are struggling.
- I agree that the commission is higher for the advisor from ICICI who is suggesting it but at the same time, he has been quite good over last 7 years to me.
- Although I do active trading (not day trading) my confidence levels do not permit managing more than 3 lakhs. So, I do need professional money managers but so far my experience has been a mixed bag. Some hits and lot of misses but fortunately have not lost money with professional managers (from ICICI / HDFC etc)

So have you joined ING Quant PMS and if so what has been your experience with them during the last two/three months?

Please advise urgently as I am also considering joining.

Hi,
Unfortunately I did not join, as my research on quant funds showed that in the longer term, they are marginally better than index based funds. I have however entered India REIT series 4 (a PE offering)

I had invested in this ING Quant PMS after persistent selling by Dhiraj from ING & Cawsi from ICICI Bank. I've finally made any exit after consistently poor performance. ING & ICICI Bank are misguiding people on this PMS which has underperformed since inception. It has not even beaten BSE 200 benchmark in most time phases and there is a huge expense structure. I would suggest investors to stay away from this fund and invest in leading mutual funds.

Hi all, I'm a reporter in India writing a story about PMS products, and how some of them have lost money for clients. If you are an investor, or have been in the past, please get in touch with me. Your experience can help inform future investors! My email is: [email protected].
Thanks!
