Day trading Versus Investment (please give answers)

#1
Actually i was thinking of starting day trading and was shortlisting which brokerage to go far from the feedbacks and inputs in the forum

Later found out that as they say its very difficult to make money in day trading
Only one in 50 makes money out of day trading

So was wondering If somebody plans to invest 50,000 versus somebody who wants to day trade 50k what will be his maximum gain after 3 months

My main question is Can one make his living by just day trading

How people who say who have earned lakhs together in investing earn in short period of time (as the word investing refers to long term )

Hi Cool life,

I have been watching your posts since a long time. I think that you are spending a lot of time in inaction. Instead of merely drawing conclusions by what others say, you should get at least "2 drops" of experience of all the things.

Choose your broker quickly and get started. You do not need thesis of 200 pages for a broker. For a small account, brokers usually offer 10 paise intraday(5 paise each side). You can bargain it to 3 paise both side(buy and sell side). Else, brokers have prepaid brokerage schemes where you can get lower brokerage upon advance payment of certain money.

Start with Rs. 2000, trade in qty of 10 shares of any scrip at a time. The point is not to make money, but for yourself to gauge whether you can handle the emotional swings and still profit.

Jump into action. That is the only way to go ahead. Nobody will ever give you a certificate that says "You can trade now". Start very small and keep growing.

Hi Cool life,

I would suggest Sharekhan or Indiabulls. Bargain the brokerage to around 3 paise intraday(buy and sell) if possible. You can go with other brokers too, but the reason I am suggesting these two is because they have excellent charting facilities along with technical indicators. As a day trader, charting and technical indicators will come very handy.

One question , how long have u been day trading and how much u are making on an average on ur capital (1% or .5% or 1.5%)

Hi Cool life,

All brokers are closed today on account of Holi :D

While opening account with Sharekhan, open through a branch so that you will have a Relationship Manager(RM). If you go though their website, you will not have any RM, and you will have to contact customer care no for all support. Their customer care is terrible with waiting times over 15 mins. I would suggest try Indiabulls instead as I have heard equally great feedback about their software and they seem to have a good customer care.

Hi Cool life,

I am not a day trader, though I watch intraday movements "quite religiously".

I am not comfortable with discussing my trading figures in public or private.

Hi Cool life,

You know the answer can send into you chronic severe depression or you can go crazy out of emotional high. Such things are better "discovered" by one self rather than asking others. On both sides, winning as well as losing, there is no limit to how much you can make or lose. You can lose more capital than you started with.
