If you mean buying naked options, then
yes, both possibilities are there.

Either you blow off your trading account
OR
will make some money, if you are on right track (barring very volatile or event days, when even being on right side, you may be in break even mode or even on loser side)

But in normal course more are on loser side rather than in profit.

One can hold it for 4 days as well if there is time in expiry.
