I am using 3 E-Wallets , Paytm , Freecharge & MobiKwik & 1 App from HDFC bank. All are smooth in transferring money.

Made few purchases through PayTm in last 7 days. But those purchases were limited to big retail stores only. Asked few small establishments about E-wallet readiness, the response was of very - very lukewarm nature. Shopkeepers in the lanes & by-lanes seem to be still feeling cold about this smart phone thingy.
It is a practical headache. Since shop keepers are used to it, cash transaction typically takes 3 seconds whereas cashless transaction typically take 15 seconds.

One shopkeeper friend of mine who started paytm service told me that on first few days, he suffered slippage as some customers simply pretended to pay him on paytm and scooted off with their purchased goods.

Now he has assigned one staff just to handle all digital payments where key job is to stall delivery until the payment confirmation is received.

Less cash...interesting....but some big business is gonna make millions if not billions out of this selling relevant equipment, providing the service, etc. etc. Wonder whats in it for who... In the mean time the common man suffers

Whatever happened to the black money held outside the country which was supposed to have been brought back?

Of course its easier to squeeze the life out the common man, makes one wonder if this is a democracy or a communist nation. The big picture of making everything white is a grand idea but implementation sucks and has no respect for the common man.

Fully agree... Lost respect for the entire move once the news that political parties can deposit as much as they want.

MODI has been made a fool by the bureacracy and the bank wizards while common man is just a pawn in game....

Please post your experiences with the UPI. Looks like it's going to be the next big thing and everyone will be using it to some extent. I don't have a smartphone so will welcome any experiences with UPI using smartphone.

I just saw an ad on TV saying that you can use UPI even if your phone does not have internet; and decided to give it a try.

  1. Dialled *99#.
  2. Got a message asking me to input 3 characters to identify the bank name.
  3. Replied with "UBI".
  4. It sent back another SMS giving out a menu of services (1. Balance check, 2. make payment etc..etc..).
  5. Replied with 1 (balance check). Got a reply saying "Phone number is not registered". Surprised, because my phone no. is registered in the bank. Will check with the bank about it.
  6. Tried again using "CBI" (central bank).
  7. Got a message saying "External service is down".

Ok. First time. The application recognizes the bank name, has some issues further on. Will improve in due time, just as with the railway enquiries message.

Please post your experiences.
Encouraged and curious by your sharing, I decided to try this after reading so many posts in this thread. From my experience, I think the approach we need to follow is that "If it fails first time, repeat it again immediately".

ATTEMPT ONE
1) *99#
--> Enter 1 for English 2 for Hindi
2) 1
----> Enter Bank code .... multiple choices...
3 SBI
----> Enter last 6 digits of your ATM card and expiry date in mmyy separaed with space
4) aaaaaa bbbb
----> Invalid MMMI Code.....

ATTEMPT TWO
1) *99#
---> Enter 1 to send money; 2 to blah blah; 3 to check balance .... 7 to mpin...
2) 3
--->
3) Enter last 6 digits of your ATM card and expiry date in mmyy separaed with space
4) aaaaaa bbbb
--> Enter your new MPIN password
5) ######
--> Re-enter your new MPIN password
6) ######
--> Your USSD MPIN was successfuly set

ATTEMPT THREE
1) *99#
---> Enter 1 to send money; 2 to blah blah; 3 to check balance .... 7 to mpin...
2) 3
---> Enter your MPIN password
3) ######
--> Balance in your SBI account xxxxxxxaaaa is Rs. ######.##
