Not clear whether 19th is the ex dividend date for shares to trade ex dividend by the stock exchange or it is a date on which a person holding shares will get dividend declared by the company. If it is ex div on 19th declared by the stock exchange then shared bought on 18th will be delivered on 20th ( T+2) and you will get dividend.

I checked up and in mphasis 19th is the effective date.So shares will trade cum dividend till 17th Oct and will trade ex dividend from 18th so as you have bought on 18th, it is ex div so you will not get the dividend.

If you buy the shares cum dividend and sell immediately next day, the shares come to your broker on settlement day and he gets dividend which he is supposed to give you. But as the effective date is 19th means shares must have gone ex div on 17th.Your friend if he has bought on 18th won't get the dividend...he must have bought on 17th in which case he will get dividend.

I checked up on BSE site which says ex div date is 19th so you should get dividend from your broker....follow up with him. Your selling without taking delivery makes no difference. He would get the dividend which he should give you.

Ok sir. Thank you for the the help.:thumb::thumb:

Just to be clear let's say I had bought on 17th and sold on 18th , then my broker would have received it , and he will pass it on to me.

Please can be also tell me from where did you check effective date of this stock , ? as moneycontrol is showing 19th as ex dividend date..

I am just learning..please dont get angry , as i am repeatedly asking question

Delivery cycle on share is T+2 (T stands for Trading Day) at its best and gets expanded during holiday times.

Shares need to be shown as "Delivered" to you on COB of 19th for you to be entitled to get the Dividend. Dividend for the shares that you purchased will go to the person who sold you the shares on 18th. But since smarttrade thinks you are entitled to get, do follow up with your broker and learn the exact rule which you can then share on this forum.
