Dear traders,

Today Business Standard posted :Lupin gains after robust Q4 results. "http://www.business-standard.com/article/news-cm/lupin-gains-after-robust-q4-results-116051900825_1.html"
The news came at 15:12 IST.

Even if I had set a news alert for LUPIN, and bought immediately it may not result in profits. The chart of LUPIN has already started rising from May 17 10 a,m, onwards. Actually it did not move up much today(0.42%). If anything, it seems poised for a fall.
What's all this? Is it possible to get the news before it is released?

I hope senior traders can throw some light on this.

Yes and its called insider trading.

unless you have a friend working in Lupin's management , you cannot get inside info.

In India 90 % of big ticket trading is insider trading. Few people will always know what the results are and they are already positioned for taking advantage of the price rise.

Expected news rarely moves the market in expected ways. It doesn't work that way.

We're living in a world dominated by quant traders, dark pools, HFTs and complex algos. Add to that central bank intervention, and the traditional positive/negative news trading cycle pales in comparison.

Dear ST

I also have similar views, that most of the market moving information definitely reaches to a SELECT few guys before it is made public.

But some of my friends keep saying that this might happen just in a few cases and it is not the case with Big Companies like TCS or Infy etc. My friends say that the quarterly results of such companies are kept tightly guarded and are made public only during the live press meets. If this info gets leaked then the company reputation can get ruined and it might get involved in insider trading cases and SEBI Investigation etc.

What do you think in this regards ?

Because remember, there is HUGE MONEY to be made worth thousands of crores every quarter, if someone is able to get the exact information of quarterly results of Nifty 50 Companies. And this will be like making easy money with limited risk, if they have exact data in their hands, before the normal market guys.

Dont you think that these reputed companies would be having very robust mechanism in place, to guard against the leaking of such critically important information every quarter ?

Many stocks make a move of 5 % + on these results announcement dates. And this could result into HUGE Profits when traded in the futures market.

Dear friends, please share your views, what do you guys think in this regards.

Although I am fully aware that few companies would definitely do the cheating and might even SELL such information and in few cases, the company management itself might be involved in insider trading as well. But I am specifically asking in the context of India's TOP Companies from Nifty 50 Index. Would they be playing the same tricks or not ?

Thanks and regards
