Angst and ire

Whew!!! We had some very heavy discussion in the M6 thread. In a country as large and diverse as ours, there are going to be issues that bring up deep emotions from us all based on different perceptions, opinions and beliefs. Even if we see things differently and have different opinions, we have to state them without getting personal. So this thread to vent our angst and ire...

Hopefully to steam off while being respectful and bring to light and change things for better. And definitely let's avoid posts or topics that are emotional and not objective and do so without violating the rules of the forum

Some good quotes to ponder on :

Discussion is an exchange of knowledge; an argument an exchange of ignorance - Robert Quillen

The aim of argument, or of discussion, should not be to win, but progress and get enlightened - Joseph Joubert

Try to find someone with a sense of humor. That's an important thing to have because when you get into an argument, one of the best ways to diffuse it is to be funny. You don't want to hide away from a point, because some points are serious, but you'd rather have a discussion that was a discussion, rather than an argument - Ed Sheeran

Edit: Was confused with one of your words as I did not know that the same word, like we use it also in German, exist in English. So forget about my question.

Have a nice evening / Dan :)

Today was riding back home after finishing some chores in the afternoon. And being hot, I stopped at a sugarcane juice shop near my house. This shop keeper keeps a stone vessel full of water for stray dogs who are facing the summer heat to drink. Being round and flat, this container will hold max about 3-4 liters of water, which is replenished everyday . But not today. And here's why.....

Two days back, a Bombay Municipal Officer came to the shop and demanded to know why this container of water was kept outside the shop and that it was against the law. And he threatened to levy a fine. So the shop keeper told him that this was for the stray dogs who were thirsty and could drink the water, and that he was doing a charitable thing and it was not against the law.

Now the funny thing happened. This guy took a small sample of water in test-tube and said ‘This water contains dengue spreading germs’ So you have to either pay a hefty fine or make settlement for Rs. 500. The shopkeeper told him he was not going to pay a penny and that the inspector could do anything he wanted. So the the next day the inspector gets 2 of his seniors and they try to extort some money but do not succeed. They try to justify behavior saying that they have to do this ‘As there is pressure from up above’ Finally not succeeding with this guy, they warn him not to keep water for the dogs or else he will be fined….

So today, the end result is that due to greed of these municipal inspectors, the dumb animals will go thirsty. Makes me to question – How low will man stoop in his greed for money? Is there no sense of shame, morality or fear of God? Sad indeed that people who are paid to do a job are misusing their office to extort money by any means possible and will resort to evil as well in its pursuit.

Talking of drinking water, a few people I know have started this as a campaign : To give away cold water bottles !
All they do is , they dont discard mineral water bottles, refill them with filter water at home, keep them in Refrigerator and as they leave for work carry one or two bottles with them depending on what else they are carrying and offer the same to Auto driver, Bus conductor or even a destitute on footpath. They do it for almost 6/7 hot months of the year. People seeing them are encouraged to follow suit and their tribe is increasing by the day !

Good thing they are doing but the trouble is the plastic bottles. They are not supposed to be recycled for drinking water. Though made of food grade plastic, most of them are of low quality. That is why it is specifically written on water bottles label - Crush after use. Only container made of non-reactive materials like glass or stainless steel should be used for drinking water storage. Contaminated water, trust me, is a major cause for the majority of ills the body has to suffer in its lifetime.

Though made of food grade plastic, most of them are of low quality and highly toxic if recycled. That is why it is specifically written on water bottles label - Crush after use. Only container made of non-reactive materials like glass or stainless steel should be used for drinking water storage. Did anybody see the photo of the 3 year old tiny refugee boy whose body was washed ashore in Turkey? Am shaken - as just looking at the picture made me question a few things about life and myself.

It is absolutely devastating to see the image that has now gone viral and is on front page of CNN. The tragedy of humanity caught in areas of conflict is heartbreaking.

Pray the soul of the little one find peace, which was denied to him here on earth.

Dan,

All that I can see is the picture of a 3 year old child who died and not the politics of it.... And looking at the picture it seems that humanity has died too.....

I used to follow up and read on the cause, reasons, viewpoints, idealogies to understand what was going on. But now, just disgusted by it all, be it whoever is to blame. Just hope and pray that there is an end somehow to the suffering of the people in the region, and that politics of it stops and people can go back to living their lives instead of fighting and killing each other.

They are doing the right thing except if they tried to collect bribe then it is wrong. But if they are imposing genuine fine then it is fine.
Imagine the number of people that would fell ill or die because of disease spread.
