Bigger Questions...... (BQ)

Today is a Holi-day, so here's some muse of/for the mind. The big question that we think we know the answer to : Who are you?

No, not what is your name. Not your age, religion, nationality, caste, gender, or what you do, etc. etc.... So any answer which says you are :

Rahul/Rafiq/Robert - This is only your name
28/36/45 - Just denotes your age
Indian/American/British - Says where you were born/reside
Brahmin/Baniya/Kshatria - Tells of your clan
Male/Female/Androgynous - Indicates your gender
Engineer/Doctor/Trader - Is only your profession
Single/Married/Divorced - speaks only of your maritial status
Rich/Poor/Middle Class - Only indicates your income/wealth relative to others

Mostly, we define ourselves by the above. Our society wants us to. But is it truly a representation of who we really are? Should it not be better to define ourselves as what we are inside? or the opposite (which could be quite a devastating reality) The answer could be that we are these - or the opposite of being -

Happy
Responsible
Honest
Positive
Hardworking
Creative
Confident
Assertive
Reliable
Trusting
Friendly
Ambitious
Sensitive
Etc. etc. (or not)

How we define ourselves guides our behaviour and we find it easy to act out who we think we are. And recognizing that is a start.....

Following up on this post.... When a person dies, we do not refer to the body with the attributes we do in life.... We do not say that this person is Rahul/Rafiq/Robert, or that he is rich, or he is married, or he is an Indian or American.... We refer to the person as the body.... And when we speak about this person it is mostly in terms of what he/she did in life (actions) We say that he/she was a good/bad, kind/evil, helping/selfish....

And that is what is important.... to think about : that when we pass away, what would our loved ones, friends, colleagues, neighbours and people in general would have to say about us.... Not in the sense to get glory or applause : But as a true testament as to how we live/lived our life.

Our children should not have to say that Dad was always busy with work, but that he was there when I wanted and needed him.... not Dad always gave me all the things that I asked for, but that he was somebody who loved me.... not Dad was someone who was aloof but somebody who I look up to and who inspired me..... Hope we all can be a role model to our children, give them time, and have them say this about us : My Dad was really an awesome guy!

What would our children have to say about us, if we have to pass off now? Something to think about.....

How we react to (unexpected situations) tells a lot about us. A long time back, there was an interesting book, called I think, 'A Book of questions'. Not sure I remember the name right, but it put one thru an unexpected situation to which we had to answer how we would react..... and our answers would be insightful and tell a lot about us.....

A typical (hypothetical) question could be : Suppose you were the Captain of the ship, which is approaching the shore. There are 20 crew on board. Now say 4 miles away from the shore, there is a fire in the engine. Now, you as the Captain are briefed of a few facts, which after considering, you have to make a decision. Consider this scenario and make a decision based on the alternatives :

A. Give orders for the engine room to be flooded with CO2, which will extinguish the fire and save the ship from sinking. However, the scenario is not as straight forward. Of the 20 crew, one of the crew is in the engine room. Using CO2 to extinguish the fire, will arrest the fire, but surely kill the one crew trapped in the engine room.

B. Ensure that you use a small fire extinguisher and try to save make a safe passage for the crew to get out of the engine room, and save his life. However, in doing so, it is likely to ensure that the fire will spread, and most likely cause it to sink. However, since the coast is nearby, it is guaranteed that the life boat can be deployed well in time, and all the 20 crew can be saved, but with the loss of the ship.

In the first scenario, there will be a loss of one life, but the financial damage to the company will be about US$ 50,000 as the rest will be borne by the insurance company.

In the second scenario, there will be no loss of life, and all crew will be safe, but the company will lose about US$ 5,000,000 as the insurance company will pay for the cost of the ship, less deductible of US$ 5,000,000 which the company has to bear.

C. To throw in a twist, should you choose the first alternative (to use CO2 to extinguish the fire and save the ship at a cost of one life) would your answer be different if instead of one, there were 5 crew who were trapped in the engine room?

D. If you choose A, in the first instance, would your answer be different, if the person trapped in the engine room was somebody very close to you?

The choices we make will tell a lot about ourselves which otherwise, we would never know..... An interesting excercise to get to know who we are and how we really think based on unexpected situations........

Questions to Spark Self-Discovery - MARGARITA TARTAKOVSKY, M.S.

http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2014/04/28/questions-to-spark-self-discovery/

Edited excerpt :

Self-reflection is a powerful tool for cultivating a fulfilling, meaningful life. When you dig deeper, you can discover “what it is you know, what you think and what you want to be in the world,” according to Rosie Molinary, who teaches body image at the University of North Carolina.

When you really, know yourself, you can live according to your values and passions, make a positive contribution to the world and simply have more fun, says Polly Campbell, a speaker and an author who specializes in positive psychology and personal development.

In other words, once you know your priorities and perspectives, you can make deliberate decisions based on those values and passion, intentionally creating a more connected life that is true to you.

Recently, Campbell attended a meditation retreat where they contemplated the power of questions — questions like “What do we need to learn to grow and experience life to our fullest?” She believes that “the questions we ask shape the lives we lead.”

Below, you’ll find questions that help you cultivate your self-awareness and lead a life that’s meaningful to you.

“Who am I?”
“What do I need right now more than anything else?”
“What feeling do I most want to have in my life? What do I want to be doing more of in my life? What do I want to be doing less of in my life?”

Molinary suggested asking ourselves these three questions. They help us explore what we really want and whether what we’re currently doing actually reflects that.

For instance, “we might want a feeling of peace and relief but keep signing up for high-pressure responsibilities,” said Molinary, When we’re creating a fulfilling life, it’s important to cut out the things that weigh us down and add the things that lift us up, she said.

“What am I resisting, or attaching to?” For many of us the fear of not being enough or not having something turn out the way we want shows up as resistance or attachment and prevents growth, Campbell said.

However, when you identify what you’re resisting or attaching to, you can refocus on cultivating acceptance and expansion, she said. “When we are not resisting or attaching, we are free to experience life fully.”

“How can I celebrate each day, or the moments of my life?”

We tend to forget that every moment is ripe with gratitude and gifts. “This question prompts you to take notice of the good stuff coming in; to pause to give thanks and mark the moments that uplift us all,” Campbell said.

Again, the questions we ask influence the quality of our lives, she said.

“Ask good questions, good things come into your life. Questions fire up our curiosity and they also illuminate the depth of our soul and psyche. This kind of reflection leads to growth, compassion, contribution and appreciation.”

It's weekend and so sometime to catch up on reading... Came across an article which I would be skeptical and dismiss, but decided to read till the end.... and then reading the references made, it made me realize that my cynicism was unwarranted. And that bring us to the big question :

Suppose a pharmaceutical company doing drug or say cancer research and having patents on anti-cancer capsules which earn them billions of dollars in revenue make a discovery of naturally available cheap herbs as curing cancer, would they publish this info. and end the suffering and deaths of millions of people who succumb to cancer? Seems they would not, because they would not be able to make money selling say garlic or turmeric (for example) which they have discovered as curing cancer and moreover it would ruin the billion dollar of revenue stream from the sale of their patented drugs! What a world we live in.

Having said the above, this article is a very insightful read and supported by research published in The journal of cancer research and US National Library of Medicine and National Institute of Health.

Miraculous Combination: Lemon & Baking Soda Found To Be Stronger Than Chemotherapy

(Disclaimer : This is a report published as is. But in my view, can be considered as supplement and not a replacement to treatment. However, it can be definitely used as a preventive measure. And the only reason one may not have heard of the benefits of this is due to the fact that drug company will not make any money selling lemon and sodium bi-carb)

Read more at http://higherperspective.com/2014/09/lemon-baking-soda.html#YAqvPArHtjw6ZLVk.99

There are several corporations, organizations, and industries that continually profit from disease. Do you know how many people die each year solely for the name of profit? This is exactly why this combination has remained a secret! Lemon has already been shown to be extremely anti-carcinogenic, along with being able to treat cysts and tumors!

Recent studies have found that consuming citrus, specifically lemons, has prevented and even treated cancer in some cases! The addition of baking soda is in order to normalize the pH of the body, disabling the cancer from spreading. Lemon also has very powerful antimicrobial properties, capable of combatting even the strongest of bacterial and fungal infections. Lemon is also very effective against worms and parasites! Lemon also assists in lowering blood pressure, reducing stress, and acts as an antidepressant!
A recent European case study discovered that ingesting four or more 150-gram servings of citrus fruit each week decreased the risk of colorectal cancer by 18%, stomach cancer by 31%, oral/pharyngeal cancer by 53%, and decreased the risk of throat cancer by a whopping 58%! The study did not find any protective effects of citrus against breast cancer, however a recently conducted American study found that women ingesting 75+ grams of grapefruit (juice or fruit) saw a 22% reduction in breast cancer risk! Where is this information coming from?

One of the largest drug manufacturers in the world! They state that after 20 laboratory test conducted over the past 35 years have proved that: “Lemon destroys carcinogenic cells in 12 types of cancer. Lemon prevents the spread of carcinogenic cells and has a 10,000 times stronger effect then drugs like Adriamycin, chemotherapy, and narcotic products.”

Chemotherapy literally attacks your entire body. It doesn’t target just the cancerous cells… it kills everything. While on the other hand, lemon and baking soda know just who to kill… CANCER! Patients should drink two teaspoons of lemon juice with a half of teaspoon of baking soda. PLEASE use organic lemons! Organic lemons will be far more effective than lemons grown with chemicals…

Thanks for the post. Organic means pesticide free or fertilizer free?
Organic food is the one of the biggest lies of the century. Just another lie like man landing on the moon. Plants dont differentiate between nitrogen/phosphorous/potassium thats coming from decaying plant matter against as coming from bagged fertilizer. The plant absorbs only so much as it needs without any discrimination. Having said that, use of fertilizers may harm soil quality but the quality of food/vegetables doesnt change with the use of fertilizers.
Pesticide free is fine on fruits/vegetables as some harmful chemicals are sprayed directly on the fruit/vegetable. But if the fruit/veggie has a pod or an outer covering then it doesnt matter if pesticide has been used.

Sorry to have brought this up in your otherwise nice post. My intention really was just to tell that the plants are much dumber/smarter than we think.

Thank you for this Post.:thumb:Similarly , In the case of dengue fever , it is an established fact even among senior medical professionals that papaya leaf juice ,does help to increase the platelet count.

I dont know if that works. Really, I haven't tried it. Been down with Malaria more than 14 times so far. Dengue twice. When you have dengue, you need prayers more than anything else. Its the most under rated disease IMO. There is no cure yet and fever can shoot up to 105-106 degrees in a matter of mins. I scathed 105.5 degrees one nite. It kills very quickly.

Will keep the papaya leaf juice in Mind. Thanks.

Hi Riskyman,

Organic does mean both pesticide and (chemical) fertilizer free. You have raised a good point as regards to use of chemical fertilizer. While the argument for not using it may have to do more with maintaining the soil quality and prevent polluting the water table by leakage of chemicals, there are some argument that chemical fertilizer may reduce the quality and taste of the produce and that there can be an excess of intake of chemicals retained in the produce as well.

My own amature experience at gardening does support this view, as when I used some chemical fertilizer for my indoor plants, they withered away and died. :( So too a farmer in my view, while fertilizing his crop may do so unevenly, and some plants may get more fertilizer than necessary, which may not be enough to kill the plant, but retain the excess in the produce.... Just my view....

Agree, there is evidence to that effect. Had read it before. Here is a report published again in the US National Institute of Health. Just an except.... the full report is in the link published....

Dengue fever treatment with Carica papaya leaves extracts - Edited excerpt

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3614241/

The main objective of the current study is to investigate the potential of Carica papaya leaves extracts against Dengue fever in 45 year old patient bitten by carrier mosquitoes. For the treatment of Dengue fever the extract was prepared in water. 25 mL of aqueous extract of C. papaya leaves was administered to patient infected with Dengue fever twice daily i.e. morning and evening for five consecutive days. Before the extract administration the blood samples from patient were analyzed. Platelets count (PLT), White Blood Cells (WBC) and Neutrophils (NEUT) decreased from 176×103/µL, 8.10×103/µL, 84.0% to 55×103/µL, 3.7×103/µL and 46.0%. Subsequently, the blood samples were rechecked after the administration of leaves extract. It was observed that the PLT count increased from 55×103/µL to 168×103/µL, WBC from 3.7×103/µL to 7.7×103/µL and NEUT from 46.0% to 78.3%. From the patient feelings and blood reports it showed that Carica papaya leaves aqueous extract exhibited potential activity against Dengue fever. Furthermore, the different parts of this valuable specie can be further used as a strong natural candidate against viral diseases.

Case report :

A male patient aged 45 years old working as truck driver in a cement factory, was brought to the emergency department with sever fever of 104 °F. The symptom included breathing problem, sever vomiting, red skin, shivering, sever body pain and high blood pressure. He reported that he had been driving truck and transporting cement to various regions of KPK, Pakistan. During his journey he used to stay at different locations for food, at that time he was bitten by mosquito carrying Dengue virus. After 24 hr of which he started feeling sever pain in whole body with fever and teary eyes. These symptoms increased time to time over the passing hours, which were followed by vomiting. In the same days three to four patients surrounding the mentioned area (Figure 1) died of Dengue fever. Subsequently the patient was admitted in emergency unit in Abottabad Medical Complex. On the basis of screening blood test examination he was declared to be a victim of Dengue fever.

The serological studies revealed an abrupt decline in the patient platelets counts. The patient has been given different broad spectrum antibiotics and anti malarial drugs but there were no signs of improvement, and his condition became worse time by time. He had been given different food items but unfortunately vomiting did not stopped. At the same time our team was working on the biological activities of C. papaya. For the patient's treatment, the leaves of the plant (Figure 2) were collected and thoroughly washed with water. The leaves were grinded in fruit juicer with water. As the taste of C. papaya leaves extract was very bitter, some amount of sucrose was added for easy administration. About 25 mL of leaves extract was administrated orally, twice daily for five consecutive days. Before extract administration, the patient blood was evaluated for total platelets counts, after 24 hours each time. After extract administration the patient blood was rechecked for platelets counts again for five consecutive days. After which the patient starts improvement.

Thank you for this Post.:thumb:Similarly , In the case of dengue fever , it is an established fact even among senior medical professionals that papaya leaf juice ,does help to increase the platelet count.
