Ustan Bismillah khan passed away at Varanasi...

I remember, when I lived in Varanasi, it was very simple to meet him....
The people of varanasi have no ego..Maybe the best city in world to live in..I enjoyed every moment of life when I was there.....Varanasi boasts of a lot of music ratnas...Bismillah definitely standing on the top levels......
Till death, he lived a very very simple life...
It is said that he learnt shehnai from his uncle...he sat in one of the temples at ghat and practised for hours....
A very simple man, who stands a great symbol for hindu muslim unity...He played on many occassions in temples....
I rember his statement during the riots of hindu muslims (varanasi had always been burning in riots)....."majhab (religion) does not preach to fight, live in love, enjoy music and study...live in love"

I pay my tributes to the shehnai legend....

Oh.... that is really a sad news... so far as I know, he spent his last days in great poverty...

I join you & like-minded souls and pray that at least now, he can rest in peace...

ya aad, you are right..though he could have made lots of money, he played free at many places...his last days were in poverty....but he was a very happy man..always laughing........

There is one more maestro, who is under paralysis and has no money now... unfortunately, our govt has not done anything for such people..the maestros name is Pandit V.G.Jog..he is in calcutta...

I remember Bismillah also crying in last years of his life for a govt job of his son and grandson..Atal Bihari Vajpayee had promised him (as ustad used to say)..but none of his family members got a govt job..

Hi

Ustad made Sehnai very popular in classical music. His achievements are unsurpassable.

You can listen his sehnai for hours and feel the bliss in your soul.

Govt has a way of recognising illustrious people who reached pinnacle of their profession-- by ignoring them.

Sad affairs --which I follwed through news media. At least now Govt should wake up and do something for people, who make India ,what it is.
