Hello,

I'd like to get an internationally accepted credit card from ICICI Bank (I have a savings account there and a debit card.)

I have read somewhere that having a fixed deposit of a certain amount of money is enough to get a credit card from some banks.

Maybe you could get a debit card, that should not be a problem with even a small amount in your account. As for international aceptance, enquire with IDBI bank, they, I think have zero balance accounts with debit cards that have international acceptance. Do check first

Yeah, an internationally accepted debit card is enough for me. I may well be 'pulled' into purchases I can't afford if I get a credit card.

I'll check with IDBI if I can get their debit card. HDFC's virtual debit card did not connect with paypal for me.

Yes you are right. One of my credit cards is FD based from ICICI. If you have FD in ICICI bank then you can ask them to issue an 'instant credit card' for a nominal annual fee, which will have the limit of 85% of your FD amount. for example 100000 rs FD enables you to spend 85000 for a month. As long as you pay the bill on time, no charges. If you missed they will fine you heavily. So be careful.

I may be able to earn 3 Lakhs a year by the time I have 1 Lakh as an FD.

I was under the impression that 20,000-30,0000 was enough for a 'limited' credit card? Anyway, I googled for ICICI and fixed deposit credit cards and got the answer of Instant Gold Credit Cards.

On Further search I found:
The minimum Fixed Deposit amount is 20,000.
The minimum tenure of the Fixed Deposit has to be 180 days. (I'm not sure if it has to have been activated for 180 days or I can start one now for 180 days.)

BTW for what purpose you want to have a PayPal account ?

If you want a PayPal account for shopping purpose then please be aware that RBI has instructed PayPal that Indian users cannot use it for shopping online anymore. You can only get payments in PayPal account which you can then transfer to your Bank Account .

If you want to shop online with International Merchants then you can use Master Card Debit Card of IDBI . It is accepted smoothly at International Websites for making payments in different Currencies like USD .

But yes this Mastercard Debit card cannot be attached with PayPal to fund it.

You want a credit card against your FD ?

But a credit card is a loan in all respects, not a gift :p None of the banks will dish out free money unless they expect you to exhaust your FD sooner or later....hope you get that :thumb:
