I have read quite a few posts in this thread. The main alegation seems to be (not just against Mr. Gujral, but tech analysts in general):

1. Wrong calls - Poor analysis.
2. Motivated calls - That is giving a buy call and then selling, etc.

On the first one I agree with Ashish ji. No body can be 100% right.

On the second one, just thinking... I heard the outgoing SEBI chairman Mr. Damodaran also saying something about experts and disclosures - it is not enough to say that 'I am not having a position in this stock', you have to say whether you are going to have a position on the stock.....

Two problems with that one. Say for e.g. I strongly feel honestly that the market is going to go up but I have a portfolio that I need to hedge against a possible crash, so I buy some puts. There seems to be a contradiction, but is it not perfectly sensible....

Another is say, if I am already in a position that I dont want to close because I am sitting on a huge profit, even though I feel that the market may move against me in the short run. So I give an appropriate call to the trader who does not have a position. For e.g. after the Jan crash, Ashwin said that he and his clients are short from 6100 on the Nifty, but he said, dont sell the market may bounce up. Now is this wrong .....

Now coming to Mr. Damodaran's point how can he find out if I play down a stock and buy it from my wife's or relative's trading account. How is a disclosure that I am not going to have a position in the future help ....

Just thinking....

Disclaimer: I am neither a client of Ashwin or any other technical analyst nor do I have any interest in this except a discussion. So please dont let me have it....
