Help required friend lost card and cash

#1
Hi,

I wanted to ask if there is any solution for a lost card ?

One friend of mine has lost his ATM-Debit card and now on inquiry, the bank says that a purchase of TV costing 50-60 K has been made from his account.
Is there any scope for him to get money back ? As of now he has the option of firing and F.I.R.

Absolutely YES!!! A FIR must be filed. All efforts should be made to bring the culprits to book.
The Bank in question should be able to guide your friend.

Ya but the thing is that the bank call center guy is saying that NOTHING CAN be done on the part of the bank. His reply seems to give the feel that the bank is trying to escape liability, I mean hiow can this be ? Isnt there any fault on the part of the bank ? how can someone just swipe a card and take the cash it cant be that easy for any bank to escape the liablily. I must say that ICICI isnt really co-operative.

There Is Not Much That Can Be Done If It Pertains To Debit Card....Only Solution Being If The Culprit Can Be Tracked Down....

Incase Of Loosing Your ATM-Cum Debit Card....Bank Must Be Informed Immediately & At The Time Of Informing The Bank, Name Of The Person At The Other End & Time Of The Call Must Be Recorded...So That, Incase Of Any Transaction Arising After Informing The Bank Of The Lost Card Can Be Disputed.

I think, if someone has lost the card, then first thing is to call bank and block the card.
I would note the time etc of that call in my records. Once u cancel the card, then you have a case to argue with bank on how they approved payment on cancelled card.

If card is not cancelled, then how will they know if this was valid /invalid purchase.

Rather then depending on one of Call center guys.. take it up with bank directly at your branch.

all the best.
