I had taken a Peerless policy with a maturity period of 10 years around 13 years back. As I had to leave the country within 2 years of taking the policy I could not make any payments after the 2nd year. However, I made the required payments for the first two years.
Now after 13 years the payments I made got appreciated in value and I am trying to get back my appreciate investment from Peerless. However, Peerless wants me to provide them with my PAN number. As I mentioned I am not living in India for 11 years and I do not have any PAN number.
Can someone let me know a) why is a PAN number required for NRIs, b) how can I get a PAN number c) What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a PAN number and lastly d) is there a way I can get my money back from Peerless without all these hastles?
