My husband has diabetes and has got a very stressful working environment. He has started medication but they are not of much help. He gets stress about everything in life. It’s driving me nuts. If any of you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

walnut (akhrot) has relaxing properties..
please try to cure the cause, not the symptoms.. try to find out what is causing the stress.. is it just work or the "expectations" or "fears" which are making him stressed?? |

I am not a fan of allopathic drugs or cures. So the therapy suggested by me would be fruit based. It has twin benefits. It helps cure the problem and most importantly does not have any harmful effects.
Bitter Gourd- (Indian name-Karela) The bitter gourd has been specifically used as a folk medicine for diabetes. The diabetic should take the juice of about four or five karelas every morning on empty stomach. Diabetics can also use karela in the form of decoction by boiling the pieces in water. Bitter gourd being rich in all the essential vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin A, B1, B2, C & Iron, its regular use prevents many complications such as hypertension (read stress), eye complications etc. Rose Apple- (Indian Name -Jamun) The jamun fruit is regarded in traditional medicine as a specific against diabetes because of its effect on the pancreas. The fruit as such, the seeds and the fruit juice are all useful in the treatment of this disease. The seeds are dried and powdered. This powder in doses of 3 grams should be given three or four times a day mixed in water. It reduces the quantity of sugar in urine. Grapefruit -(Indian name Chakotra) Grapefruit is a splendid thing in the food of diabetic patient. It should be eater liberally. If you have sugar, use 3 grapefruits three times a day. If you do not have sugar, still use three a day. Avoid sweets and fats and eat mostly fruits and vegetables and juices. In two weeks this will eliminate sugar when not taking insulin. When taking insulin, it takes longer. The above are excerpts from the book "Foods That Heal" written by Dr. H.K. Bhakru. I paid Rs.25 for this book and it has saved me thousands in the form of doctors' fee and medicine . Instead, I prefer spending my hard earned money for buying lots of fruits and vegetables for my family. I suggest you get a copy of the book for yourself and keep it as one of your prized possessions. Last edited by subrmanyam; 9th February 2008 at 09:13 AM. |

Diabetes and stress are two extremely lethal things your husband is living with. Please dont take it lightly - Chances are its a type 2 stress related diabetes and will require serious behavior and environment change. Considering that the medicines are not working, you will need to consult specialist and take professional advice seriously. There is no cure for diabetes and the medicines probably stopped working because your husbands stress is exacerbating the condition. Please seek help and tell him to alter his behavior. There are some good resources on webmd for stress management, take a look at those. Wishing you good luck and good health. |

Stress is known to be associated with many known ailments including diabetes. Modern allopathic medicine may provide only temporary relief. I would suggest you to look into alternative therapies, one of them being Yoga. Check out this link: http://www.healingsociety.org/ilchilee/ilchilee.html these would really help.
