Seniors,

I am new to this Futures and not able to understand how Open Interest is arrived at. Is there any site which gives live open interest of Nifty and whether the open interest is positive or negative.

Open Interest is essentially the number of futures contracts that are outstanding in the market, i.e. not closed. Futures market is a zero sum game hence for 1 contract open, there has to be 1 contract closed. ANy open interest figure indicates the number of positions outstanding in the market. As far as your second question is concerned, you can use wither NSE website for open interest data (positive or negative) or you can use moneycontrol dot com website for the same info.

As mentioned Open Interest are the number of contracts that are open at any time. How do you determine if the open interest is positive or negative? Meaning are there more Put or Call contracts that are open.
