01. Yes , you can buy and sell Futures the same day. You can even SELL and BUY futures which many brokers do not allow in Equities if you do have the equity in your portfolio.
02. Tax is levied at full rate. The income is treated as Speculation income.
03. For all info related to FnO: www.nseindia.com
04. Have attached FnO lot size file

You may learn about FnO from the following link , an easy to understand guide..

Yes, futures are just like stocks just more dangerous - they'll bite when you are not looking :D

How are margin requirements calculated? Where can I see the margin requirements for a particular stock. For example, for SBI futures, the margin requirements were 25% around a week back, but today, they are 42%!! That is quite a change; coupled with the fact that SBI stock (and futures) have risen considerably in the past few days, I am not able to short SBI futures (since I don't have that much money to deposit 42% as margin). Very surprising that margin requirements should be so high. Can someone pls explain.

SEBI has doubled the margin requirements for today don't know if it applies only for today but don't short this market. It is not good to short a uptrending market definitely not one that hit upper circuit two times in a single day and is still in the green.

Thanks for the quick reply. But how/where did you come to know this (SEBI has doubled the margin requirements)? Also, I would have thought 'somewhere' on the website (nseindia.com), margin requirements for individual stocks should have been mentioned (in terms of percentage of the underlying), but couldn't locate this information anywhere. Hence my question as to where do I find this info.
