Today i was trading the minifty feb contract and there was absolutely no liquidity. The total traded quantity for minift (lot of 20)
minifty jan contract 309140 minifty feb contract 3120 minifty mar contract 280 whereas Nifty futures (lot of 50) was nifty jan contract 31506150 nifty feb contract 498450 nifty mar contract 60050 my question is if the underlying is the same (nifty index) then what is the point of having 2 different instruments. I was not able to buy or sell the contract quickly. The trading was almost non-existant on the march contract. Why not reduce the lot size of nifty future contract to 20 instead of introducing a separate entity. I know that such contracts exists in nasdaq and some other exchanges but having 2 instruments for the same underlying is quite unnecessary. Unless you want to protect an earlier policy. To create more suckers. The difference is margin on 50*6000 and 20*6000. so more under capitalized traders can burn!
50 and 20 may not make sense but 2500 and 100 a lot does...so lets wait for mini stock contracts. |
