Default Gems from CNBC

(Please correct me if I am wrong)

Did I hear right last night when Senthil Chengalvarayan queried his analyst (a Yuvvraj Singh lookalike) if Infosys has sufficient cash to pay out the 'bonus'

(All know what context I am talking about)

Whereupon , the analyst reponded with a Yes, and went on to give some idea of the Cash which the co has on its balance sheet ...

Hi
Somewhere I heard that Infy has 52 times its equity base as cash and is planning to give bonus as well as final dividend this year. One more interesting snippet was that holder of one infy share in 1993 in IPO would have 1024 shares now which is surely going to increase.(I surely miss infy in my portfolio). Members can verify if it is true

Absolutely

Actually I was so stunned that I sometimes wonder if I heard right ...Senthil Chengal.. is an old hand (I quite admire him frankly) and I still cant believe he said it (he actually is a fast speaker and so I give him the benefit of doubt..
thinking I might have misheard)

By the way u don't need to be a CA to 'get' this ... I think basic knowledge of Balance sheets is enuf...

Meanwhile I am sure most CNBC anchors will get good cash 'bonuses' this yr at annual appraisal time ... they have been doing a good job generally and progressing in life ... e.g. see where Shireeen and Udayan have come ... from their earliest rookie days

And hasn't CNBC also glamourised itself ... look at Ayesha Faridi ... IMHO she is 'smart' enuf to be the host(ess) of a Film Awards Presentation ... don't u agree folks ??

Well said, Joy

It may be dangerous no doubt, but its certainly entertaining !

I mean CNBC is gradually becoming like an addiction , and not only because of the unfolding prices, but also because of its heady mix of glamour, comedy, farce and tragedy.

Not to mention the gaffes, or gems (subject of this thread).... latest one was today when analyst Varinder held forth on Devaki Hospitals in the context of what he called the 'hospitality' industry.

Of course .. a harmless one ... but like I said, cause for comic relief in its own small way

Hi agilent

I did not visit this thread earlier so late reply.

Yes I understood that. For giving bonus there is no cash outflow.

I was merely giving cash position of Infy and not commenting on the irony which you hinted at.Somebody with rudiment knowlege about the cash position would not have thought of asking that also. That was my point.

So do not get agitated agilent.
