Transfer of shares in physical form

A friend of mine has some physical shares of various companies in his name. He intends to sell them to me. He does not have a PAN card. Can I know the process of getting these physical shares transferred in my name. Can I get them transferred in physical form or in demat form. I have a demat account in my name. Please reply
