Dear

Can you please tell me what does volatility means and how is it calculated?

Have a nice day
JB
hi john, I cannot define an exact definition of Volatilty. But volatilty implies the fluctuation in the price of a prticular stock while following its trend. For example when u c the nifty ul find that on any day while it inches up at times therre is pullbacks also. This up and down movement is called Volatility.

Volatilty is measured by Beta which u can find at the NSe's site.

Volatility is maximum at MArket Tops and bottoms Volatilty is measured by the Indicator called Standard Deviation. U can just check that in any charts..

thanks and reagrds

Volatility is the measure of stock's movement compared to its benchmark index. Also known as Beta.
If the stock moves 2% upon the 1% movement of its index its beta (or volatility or Risk) is 2.00. If it is 0.5% on 1% movement of the index beta is 0.5.
The higher the beta more volatile (or risky) the stock is considered.
