Sbi p/e ratio

#1
Dear members,

EPS of Sbi is 83.33(source :http://www.bseindia.com/qresann/result.asp?scripcd=500112&scripname=State+Bank+of+India&quarter=MC2005-2006&type=49.5) and its current price is around 800 which means a p/e ratio of around 10. Is that good to buy at this level?

Hi Sethuraman

Most of the Public sector Banks are at low PERs. SBI is one of the highest.

Tough the following data fr PERs of various Public sector Banks is about two weeks old , it does give an idea of the sector..

Allahabad Bank 5.4
Andhra Bank 7.5
Bank of Baroda 10.8
Bank of India 8.6
Bank of Mah. 24
Canara Bank 7.1
Corporation Bank 9.8
I D B I 9.8
Indian Overseas 6.3
Oriental Bank 7.1
Pun. Natl. Bank 9.6
St Bk of India 10.4
Syndicate Bank* 7.5
UCO Bank 9.2
Union Bank (I)* 8.6
Vijaya Bank 16.1

COmpare the private Bank data..They seem to be better off. But also lok at some of the astronomical valuations of some..

Bank of Rajasth. 12.3
City Union Bank 5.6
Dhanalaksh.Bank 9.1
Federal Bank 7.2
HDFC Bank 28.6
ICICI Bank 19.7
IndusInd Bank 7
J & K Bank 10.9
Karnataka Bank 6.8
Karur Vysya Bank 8.2
Kotak Mah. Bank 79.5
South Ind.Bank 9.8
UTI Bank 17.4
Yes Bank 46.1

The Banking sector had been very sluggish as far as the stock market is concerned. Only further reforms in the banking ssector an M&As will enthuse the market for this sector.

Hi Karthikmarar,

May you please share the info from which site you have collected the data in such tabular form. I am in search of such site for a long time where I can download the fundamental data (P/E , EPS , etc...) in such tabular form all at a time (like NSE bhavcopy).

Thankyou

I too wish there was a site where one could download al the fundamental data at one go. :) Unfortunately there is none I suppose. Wonder if any of the online broker's site allows such downloading of fundamental data at one go. The data I have has been painstakingly collected by a friend... Lucky to have such friends..

Hi Karthik,

Thanks for your reply. i am sure there are such sites available on the Internet which offer such data. Because many times I got such data in different groups (Yahoo & Google) posted by group members but nobody want to disclose the source of that data.

Thankyou

Subrata Bera.
