need urgent advice

hi,

i am assembling a new pc and would like your advice and opinion on the following -

- does sharekhan trade tiger 2.1.0 use 4 cores?...the wesite says advanced users can use quad core but is TT 2.1.0 optimized for that?

- the config i have in mind is core i3 2100, intel/asus mobo, 8 gb 1333 ddr 3 ram g skill/ corsair (lowest latency available) and an asus graphics card with dual monitor support.

- the core i3 2100 is a sandy bridge dual core with hyper threading and quick sync technology from intel. Cannot overclock (dont need to anyway) and minus turbo boost (dont think i would miss that either)

If you guys advice a quad core i would have to go with an AMD phenom x4 960 with compatible mobo & all other specs as above.

just dont want to waste money on an intel quad core if TT 2.1.0 cannot utilize it.

Besides in all benchmarks that i have been through on reputed sites, the i3 2100 outperforms the quad core AMD cpu's and even come close to the core i5. That makes me feel the core i3 2100 should be excellent for trading.

Just confused about sharekhan's reccomendation of a quad core for power users. I can assure you that 4 cores will make no difference at all if TT 2.1.0 is not optimized for it.

Even most games today are not optimized to utilize 4 cores. (though i dont game and this pc will be used only for trading)

I have tried contacting sharekhan customer service and they said quad core is better than dual core !!!....now i already know that...but will TT 2.1.0 utilize those 4 cores?...i dont know...and sadly no one at sharekhan seems to know either...

i need to buy the components next week...need a quick reply..

thanx,

hi tanmoypanja,

thanx for your reply...

i am using a pentium 4 2.4 ghz with 2 gb ddr 4 ram and 4 mbps bsnl bb connection. I had no problem with TT 1 & TT 2.0, but with the upgrade to TT 2.1.0 recently, its running a bit slow...even the charts buffer a little while opening ...

Since my system is over 6 years old, i am going in for a new one and just wanted to know if TT 2.1.0 really uses 4 cores or is it a waste?...as the difference in price for core i3 2100 and core i5 2500 is about rs 4000.

I do not run any other application that would use 4 cores...so if TT 2.1.0 does not use 4 cores, then why waste rs 4000? If i know for certain that it does utilize 4 cores, i could well buy the core i5 2500 (quad core) or an AMD quad core that is priced about the same as the dual core i3 2100 from intel.

Problem is...i would prefer intel over AMD (low power consumption & better stability). But then again the intel quad core is very expensive and i am willing to buy it only if it makes a difference.

i wish the moderators would enlighten me on this as most people here (me included) wouldnt know much about this.

thanx again...

dear vjay,

If you are using your pc for trading and general browsing and not for gaming/ graphics work like video editing etc, dont waste money on a high end card... its pointless.

Buy a low end PCI Express 2.0 card with 1 gb ddr3 ram, DVI & HDMI ports (VGA is an old standard & you are probably using an LCD/LED monitor anyway)

These cards will support dual monitors & the 1 gb ram will ensure that your system memory will remain free.

Nvidia cards from Palit/ Asus (GeForce 210) will cost under 2000 rs ( itdepot.com/ bitfang.com)

If you want the x 16 (goes into the faster 16 lane slot) & your motherboard supports it, it will cost you another 500 to 800 rs more.

If you want dual monitor support just for the purpose you have mentioned, dont go beyond this.

To learn how to connect and more info on DVI, HDMI, D Sub, VGA and also to configure dual monitors in windows xp/ 7, please look up some you tube videos. Plenty of info in those videos that even a child will understand.

hope this helps.

vjay,

sorry...your second query was if you can keep your terminal open on one monitor and charts on the other..the answer is YES. That is what dual/ multi monitors are for right?

Again You tube will explain it all very graphically to you.

vjay,

just one more last point...be sure to check the size of the card so that it fits into your mid tower. With low end cards you shouldnt have a problem, but do check anyway.

Also low end cards do not emit much heat and you will not need any extra cooling. Whatever is required - fan/ fanless...will come with it.
