S/L orders

#1
Hi Friends,

Could any one help me understand what does S/L (Stop Loss) order means in easy and simple understanding words with appropriate examples.

I find this term very difficult the remember.

I heard that there are 4 types of S/L orders.

As i understand S/L order is to prevent loss, so does it means whenever the S/L order is executed, one incurs loss??

How S/L orders are useful for the investor.

Thanks in Advance,
Durai007.
