Help!Opening demat for first time

This is my first post.
I am new to stock market and am just a beginner.
I want to open a new demat a/c.
Please tell me what are the things i should know for opening a demat a/c.
What type of charges are incurred.
I am going with Indiainfoline,how good is this?

please tell me the set of questions i should ask the representative?

You need PAN card and Address proof to open a demat account.

Indiainfoline is ok for a beginner who trades less volume.
Indiainfoline provides web based trading and a software application too. You can choose any option.
It is better to start with small capital and learn the market behaviour first.

(For huge volumes, you can go for R.K.Global or Zerodha brokerages)

Negotiate with the representative for at least 0.03% and 0.3% brokerage for intraday and delivery transactions respectively.

The following are the charges you will incur:
1. Account Opening Charges
2. AMC Charges (There is an option for zero Annual Maintenance Charges in Indiainfoline)
3. Brokerage on buy and sell transactions.(Intraday ~ 0.03%, Delivery ~ 0.3%)
4. DP charges of Rs.15/- for every delivery sell transaction.
