Short selling rules..

#1
Hi friends, i'm a wannabe investor. I just want to ask, is there any lower limit of capital required for short selling any BSE stock?? I want to practice it on intraday basis. What if i don't manage to square off on that particular day??

Thanks in advance. :)

1. Generally u should have 20% of the value of the stock you are shorting in your ledger.
2. If you do not square off .. the broker will at 3.10-3.30 at whatever price the system thinks fit .... i.e. if they have this facility. If not then you will have to pay a penalty. Next day or T+2 day price (am not sure which) +20%.

Most important thing if you are shorting something with circuit filters make sure you cover it before the circuit limit is hit. You can avoid the whole process of auction. Check the nse, bse website daily for knowing the days circuit limits. If you are shorting pick something which is traded in the derivative side(Futures and Options). These stocks in the cash market have have no circuit limit. And above all think twice before shorting newly listed stocks you never know where the operator is taking the stock.Better safe than sorry.
