hi guys,
i am thinking of upgrading my BSNL plan to ULD 900 from next month. Can anyone who day trades tell me how much bandwidth is consumed for streaming quotes in one trading session used continuously for 5 - 6 hours? I know i can check this myself but i now have an (upto) 2 mbps connection and secondly if different traders have different figures, it could help me arrive at an average.

the ULD 900 plan would give me 4 mbps up to 8 Gb limit and 256 after that. This is an unlimited plan and i am pretty sure i wouldn't cross the 8 Gb limit in a hurry.

Kindly let me know your experiences with the 4 mbps speed and the average bandwidth used for a trading session ONLY if you are personally using it. I have read reviews from the net and don't need those again. May i also add that i use sharekhan's trade tiger platform.

sorry, i posted this in the wrong section, but as this is the most viewed i thought i might get a faster and better perspective from real day traders.

thank you very much for your time...

Hi there,

In my experience (which is limited to 3-4 months), you dont need such high bandwidth. All that you need is 256 KBPS which works for most of the time.

So I would suggest go for unlimited plan but the speed should be more than 256kBPS. (am using NSE NOW platform).

Also, I am not using any live charting software; if you are using that then the bandwidth requirements will increase..

Regards
Arsh

hi arsh,

i think 256 kbps would be too slow for day trading. Of course you will get streaming quotes and it may look like real time but there will definitely be a delay (time lag) and that will affect you surely. 512 kbps is much better but like i said - faster the better. And the plan i have talked about is unlimited - 4 mbps upto 8 Gb download and 256 kbps thereafter. Another problem i face is that when kaspersky downloads, the streaming sometimes stops and the screen freezes. It resumes after kaspersky has downloaded updates. Moreover arsh, i am currently on BSNL 500c (2.5 Gb limit & upto 2 mbps). For rs.300 more i get an unlimited plan, faster connection and no checking usage!

I dont keep charts open all the time. I watch tv and use stop losses.

thanx for your reply...

arsh,

forgot to tell you that there is a vast difference between advertised speed and actual speed. All ISP's take you for a ride, including BSNL. The actual speed is sometimes not even half of what is advertised, many a times just 25% of it. TRAI does nothing about this daylight robbery. In my ULD 900 plan, the advertised speed is 4 mbps, but i cannot expect more than 2 - 2.25 mbps.

I went for it because the pricing is quite reasonable. Paying beyond this is pointless.....its much better to spend that money to buy a new motherboard, i7 processor, 8 GB memory and waiting for TRAI to pull up its socks and make these cheats deliver what they promise.

take a look at this article in the hindu...you will know what i am talking about.

thanks again,

happy trading
