Hello,

I was considering investing in the following companies with a long term view in mind. Please let me know what you think.

1. Dena bank
2. Vijaya bank
3. Bank of Maharashtra
4. Uco Bank
5. Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers
6. Varun shipping
7. 3I Securities

Thank you very much. I appreciate any/alll the input I get.

First of all one point to remember.Never buy more than 2 or three stocks from the same sector if you have limited number of companies in your portfolio. Of the psu banks which I track all three are good in my opinion. But Dena is the most volatile and Vijaya bank the least volatile while Uco bank comes in between them. All three looks good for long term but Uco bank looks the most attractive among the three but for short to medium Dena would give more returns as it is more news sensitive and the market remains positive.Rest I dont track.

Thanks, Deneb. May I ask how you reached the conslusion that Uco might be the most promising in the long term? The reason I ask, is that it'll further my financial education. Also, any other recomendations?

You can use marketcap/sales ratio if you comparing companies from same sector. In the case of banks also look at non performing assets. But above all YOU MUST HAVE SOME CONFIDENCE THAT THE COMPANY HAS A GOOD FUTURE BEFORE YOU BUY THE SHARE. Among the three I dont think there is gonna be that much difference in future performance but I like Uco because it reacts moderately to news flows compared to dena.
