Question related with Dividend.

Hi,

I am a newbie and wanted to know that when a company announces a dividend, Who would be eligible for receiving it i.e

Lets Say if i purchase a share worth Rs 100 on 15th November and on 17th November company announces dividend, then will i be eligible for the Dividend.
Also if possible, can anyone let me know what "square off" means with a small example.

Thanks in Advance,

Regards,
Vicky.

Each dividend is announced with expiry date you must hold the shares in your demat account before that expiry date
Suare off = Sell your holding of share

Hi vicky,
the company will announce a record date. you should have the shares in your dmat a/c before the record date to get the dividend.

Thanks for the replies guys...

Also wanted to know the general practice.. i.e the record date..how much is the difference between the record date and the date of dividend announcement.

Example: If on November 4th the company announces the dividend, then what approximately what would be the record date be ( need to know the rough estimation in weeks or months).

Thanks in advance.

All Futures and Options Contract for the month of November have expired today!!! They no longer exist!!!
People have to either Buy ir Sell December futures to carry long or short positions.

Its not always true that there is heavy sell off in mkt on Expiry day!! The expiry comes every month's last Thursday! Yes , expiry days are volatile in nature but need not be 'sell off' days!! Today some other factor coupled with expiry might have triggered a big Sell!!
