Cipla is exclusive producer of Tamiflu (generic version of Roche Holding AG's Tamiflu) in India and has the capacity to export if need arises.

Cost is 1000 Rs/10 Tablets

GlaxoSmithKline PLC sells an anti-flu drug, Relenza.

All the above details from net

NatcoPharma rose 20% today...dont know whether it is connected with SwineFlu drugs.

Beware. Indian Government has got enough power under various laws to

1. To licence manufacturing of drugs, which includes issuing of new licences. So if emergency arises, Govt. can and most probably will issue new licences to other manufacturers for manufacturing necessary tablets/drugs. If my information is correct, in such cases Indian Govt. can sidestep patent issues as well.

2. Indian Govt. has got enough power to control the cost of the drug also. So unlimited profiteering will not be tolerated. Especially if the flu spreads like wild fire and infects majority of the poor who definitely will not be able to afford Rs.1000/- per 10 tablets. If the poor are affected enmassee, it will threaten the stability of the Govt itself. Govt. will take every step to distribute the drug at an affordable cost.

3. Govt. can import the drug from other countries and distribute it through Govt hospitals at vastly subsidised rates.

4. Govt. can force drug companies to manufacture this particular drug and it can also force the companies not to sell the drug beyond a particular price point.

5. When the Govt has got enough power to control manufacure, distribute and price of the drug, no smart businessman will dare to take on the Govt.

To summarise, companies will profit from this new disease. But one must have some limitation in estimating the extent of these profits.

Shame on you, trying to profit from a calamity
Our politicians must have some sense of shame. I am not expecting them to feel shame. That is too much expectation. They make money by corruption in every calamity be it flood, drought, disease, riot so much so that even in the coffin purchased to our brave soldiers who laid their lives in protecting our country which includes you and me and also these shameless politicians.

I was aghast when I read a newspaper report during Nov 26 Mumbai attacks that many brave policemen and commandos died just because the life saving bullet proof jacket that were given to them was of substandard quality and the policemen have been complaining about the quality sinnce long time but no one cared. Can you imagine how a person knowingly wear these jackets and walk on to fight terrorists who were fighting with vastly improved weapons?

Politicians never feel shame. That is the quality of them, may be one of the eligibility criteria for being in politics.
Everyone is aware of only a part of the fraud they do, but still there is no way to punish them other than the Almighty.
Only in movies the fraud politicians will be punished.

i feel companies who are beneficairy of the swine flu should forget taking benefit of the calamity and help the nation by giving thier serivices at no profit basis, Investors should keep away from those companies who try to make profit over dead bodies
