One quick question to all traders who consider themselves as successful....

I am always hearing the fact that to become a consistent profitable trader it requires 3 years......

Though I am just 11 moths old in this market (not successful though), I am strongly disagree with this statement. The reason bieng difference in individual personality......

So if I am good enough in learning the things and commited enough, why I cant achieve that in say 18 months?

To check the ground reality of above question, I am urging all successful traders out there to let us know how much time they required since entering into the market to become a consistent profitable trader....

Thanks.........

I dont think time is a matter at all.Just research different ideas, backtest them and trade them. The day you are satisfied with your system that it suits your style then u can trade it.Dont belive that discretionary things will work 99% of them are losers.Any trading idea that requires that u should take decisions in market hours will not work.:)

It requires 3 yrs. Why it requires 3 yrs you will know after 2yrs 1 month. Till that time don't kill the goose that lays golden eggs.
No question of quitting; will never quit even if takes more than 3 years. But somehow or anyhow I want it to happen before I complete 2 years in market......

Rightly said. I've been associated with the stock market since almost 1990 but actually never know the whats, whys and hows of it. Just that u buy some stocks and if the co does well the price moves up, else down!!!!

Now with the advent and easy accessiblity of the net I've made quite a bit of a progress BUT still cannot call myself an expert.

For me - its more positional than intra coz thats where the major moves come and that's how I've been associated with the markets right from when I was 20something.

btw even RajatheRoyal is sounding positional than Intra :)

No sir i dint not mean that intraday can not be dont profitable.what i meant was that u must have predefined rules and the rules must be like that even a nontrader must be able to follow it without any knowledge of market. If you have good rules u would prefer intraday than positional coz it has less drawdown than positional:cool:

I am in this market for 1 year and 4 months now. I think i'll need another 1 yr and 8 months to know if i am every going to be succesful in trading.

I think its a mind game. You look at the same chart in different ways everyday and learn something new. One view contradicting another. different time frame adding a newer dimention to the same chart. Ascimilating the data and making it second nature... will take me another 1 year and 8 months.

So 3 years is right... i guess...Will be able to confirm it on March'11...
