4:32 PM - Dismal global cues affected the Indian market that saw a weak closing today. Sensex closed at 18139, down 523 points and Nifty at 5322, down 161 points from the previous close. The CNX Midcaps Index was down 1.6%, BSE Smallcaps Index was down almost 0.5%. The BSE IT Index was down 5.5% and BSE Metal Index was down 3.6%. The market breadth was negative with advances at 434 against declines of 782 on the NSE. Top Nifty gainers included Gail, Reliance Energy, Reliance Communications and ABB while losers included Satyam, Wipro, Sterlite and Infosys. Tomorrow, two important rate meetings (Bank of England and European Central Bank) may affect sentiments. Some Asian markets (Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean) will remain closed tomorrow on account of Chinese New Year
