As you can see from the question, I am a beginner. I am curious to know why is there a difference between the closing and opening price of a stock. What is causing the difference?

Also the markets are open from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but who are allowed to trade from 9:55 onwards?

Thanks

recent example IFCI when stake was cancelled, the share opened 20% down
yes,its always there not new at all, also companies usually release good news when scrip price moving southwards.

be patient,IFCI will come with one more news and again stock will move north...its all in the game

The market opens at 9:55 AM and you can start trading from 9:55 AM. You got to check with your broker for further details.

As far as query pertaining to opening price :

The price is determined by the maximum number of shares that can be traded at one go.( ie best price at which you can have the maximum shares executed. )

Quite simple. Everything revolves around supply and demand. IF there is any good news regarding the company after the market has closed,it would have a upscale effect from the previous close. Just the opposite incase of any bad news

Early in the morning A good trader sees SGX nifty, world market position an associates with valuation & news of the script besides its performance then who thinks for market open prize & also think that after open the prize at what extend it can go up or down by various chart analysis or by his feel or sentiment to smell the beauty of right prize.if he feels after open prize it can be on height and wont be down then he can make bit higher bid or he feels that prize will get down initially then it will go up ,then he can make lower bid as per his estimations all depend upon the fund positions of market if a glass is full of water then its fully possible that any body can suck it or if glass is empty then chances of filling will be on a very higher side.thats why its a very conditional thread to determine and always depend upon trader to take any decision
