Smile The market is like a lady

Mr Ashwini Gujral in his latest book “ How to make money trading derivatives” says on page 203 “ Treat the market as a lady and you will be happy. When a lady says no, the gentleman says no. It works well with the ladies as with the markets.”

The lady analogy is really interesting. As it is before commencing trading, I used to sing to the terminal ,” Jo tum ko ho pasand wahi baat karenge, tum din ko agar raat kaho raat kahenge”“ Good reminder?

At another place he has mentioned girlfriend instead of lady. I had another analogy” Both markets and women are unpredictable” Mr Gujral, “ The truth of this market is that it never does what a majority thinks it will do”

At yet another place he mentioned that the market is the customer and the customer is the king. Remember that when you trade.

It reminded me of what I had said in an earliest post; the spiritual concept of surrender; Mr Gujral describes how one can surrender to the market and reverse one’s position with handsome gains.

The analogy reminded me of something on women that I came across two years back in a book on proverbs. It was so outrageous that I had typed it. That analogy also resembles something else that Mr Gujral says in the book , “ The market is not a place to make easy money but a place where you can lose money easily.”

I don’t agree with this at all(about women) but I am sharing it because it is so outrageous. Some of it is actually true for the share market.

Women are as wavering as the wind.( Unpredictablility about markets)
A woman either loves or hates in extremes. ( overbought/oversold)
Never trust a woman even though she may have borne you seven children.
(The mkt can turn against you anytime)
A ship and a woman are ever repairing.(mkt is constantly changing)

Some of the other statements(12) are so outrageous that I would rather not mention them for fear of offending the ladies in the forum. In case anybody thinks I am an MCP, I happen to be a poet who has written a fair amount of complimentary poems on women. I can’t go against my own market can I?

To sum up

Even if the stock market is like a lady
The greatest malady
Is that with its unpredictability, you cannot think of going permanently steady
Success in the mkt can make you quite heady
But it is full of characters who are shady
Apart from people who keep saying “Mkt has discounted everything already”
That is why one has to be on one’s toes and be eveready
Only on total surrender to it it can be “My(and your) fair lady”
