The site http://www.desitradermall.com/ provides stock data which has "open interest" along with other things such as open, high, low, close, and volume.
How is "open interest" calculated for equity? For F&O, it is the number of unexpired contracts, but for equity there is nothing like expiration of contracts. Any idea about it. |

open interesr is the number of contracts unexecuted. unlike equity there is no float in the mrkts. Say i initiate a long on Nifty futures for may series and then i dont sq it till 31 May 07. it will be considered as the contract which is Open and will be added to Open intrest. Every day it will be marked to market. On the expiry day ur contract will be settled finaly. thanks |

thats is what i knew, but in www.desitrader.com they are providing equity data which has open interest in it. I dont know what it means. Just see the file attached. Have a look at it. Here is the link http://www.desitradermall.com/mallsi...OD20070531.zip
I was unable to upload the file. So, i have pasted a part of it here. <ticker> <name> <date> <open> <high> <low> <close> <volume> <o/i> <series> <corp-action> S&P CNX Nifty S&P CNX Nifty 05/31/2007 4250.25 4306.75 4250.25 4295.8 504561044 504561044 IX CNX IT CNX IT 05/31/2007 5193.85 5257 5193.85 5218.35 0 0 IX CNX Nifty Junior CNX Nifty Junior 05/31/2007 8017.2 8099.2 7984.1 8022.55 0 0 IX S&P CNX Defty S&P CNX Defty 05/31/2007 3616.2 3672.9 3616.2 3662.75 0 0 IX BANK Nifty BANK Nifty 05/31/2007 6255.5 6345.3 6255.5 6324.5 0 0 IX CNX Midcap CNX Midcap 05/31/2007 5614 5664 5614 5644.15 0 0 IX S&P CNX 500 S&P CNX 500 05/31/2007 3553.35 3569.3 3542.95 3563.65 0 0 IX CNX 100 CNX 100 05/31/2007 4159.1 4190.2 4151 4180.95 0 0 IX ABB ABB LTD. 05/31/2007 4574.9 4631.05 4525 4603.7 99373 53442 EQ ACC ACC LIMITED 05/31/2007 862 869 843.05 850.85 686114 426590 EQ BAJAJAUTO BAJAJ AUTO LTD 05/31/2007 2220 2259.9 2205.05 2224.6 613243 329479 EQ BHARTIARTL BHARTI AIRTEL LIMITED 05/31/2007 835 858 832 849.25 1564069 875869 EQ BHEL BHEL 05/31/2007 1428 1439.65 1378.25 1399.1 1417340 799606 EQ XB BPCL BHARAT PETROLEUM CORP LT 05/31/2007 355 368.35 352.7 361.2 781438 494318 EQ CIPLA CIPLA LTD 05/31/2007 218 219.9 215.65 217.45 2027781 1122326 EQ DABUR DABUR INDIA LTD 05/31/2007 98.65 100.5 96.1 99.9 1976076 699327 EQ DRREDDY DR. Hi Ravi,
Check out this file http://www.nseindia.com/archives/equ...O_31052007.DAT. What is being referred as OI is actually the Deliverable Quantity(gross across client level). It is actually a part of the total traded Quantity. I am not sure if this can be taken as Open Interest for Cash stocks (not F&O). If it can be then i would like to have this feature in the next release of my software GetBhavCopy. Can you please help me determine if I provide this data as Open Interest for Cash stocks it confirms to concepts of technical analysis. Regards, Hemen. |

Dear Mr Hemen
Since amibroker has no separate column for delivery volume, open int column in the software can be used for that. What I would like is that ,capture delivery data from nse in such a way that it can come under column "open int".It is only for our convenience. I make it clear this cannot be misunderstood with the openint which is used in derivatives. regards Sundha Quote:

Hi Sundha,
Thanks for the input. I think it will be better to provide this facility. By default Delivery volume should not be taken as Open Interest. However I will provide an option (check box). If that is selected then it will be treated as Open Interest. Regards, Hemen. |

If you add this facility in new release of GetBhavcopy 2.0 it will be great thing. Deliverable quantity is important in sense that "when percentage of deliverable quantity increase with volume you will come to know that somebody is CORNERING that equity and price will rise within short time so you can ride on it(with technicals offcourse) and some news will come surely in short time"
